Broken right front strut piston

Hey guys, I noticed a clunking this morning from my right front strut. Lifted her up when I got home and started to diagnose. After just a few minutes, I found the shaft/piston on my strut had snapped! Has anyone ran into or seen this before?

Luckily I used to be a technician. I knew instantly something was severely wrong. I babied her home without incident. Im still shocked (no pun intended) that it snapped. I have never seen anything like this before.

Wow that could have been very bad. Good save with being "in touch" with your car!
