I guess everyone has their own opinion but always telling people to offer next to nothing for a car they own themselves is just plain stupid.

overpaying is stupid. It's supply and demand. This forum has nothing to do with current TT pricing. The fact that it is a super car bargain is the story being told all over the internet. I bought a 964 C4 for $16k 10 years ago, sold it for $20k 4 years later and felt good. Same car is worth $30k today. Same with my '03 C4S, made $4k on the sale after owning it for 3 years. Drove it for free. Almost paid for my Turbo. Hold on to your 996 TT because they will go up just like the other 911's before them. I just sold a hunk of rust '55 356 for $40k. Maybe I should have crushed it, as would have been done 20 years ago...not worth fixin'.

No one is saying to over pay but lowballing is suggested continuously and that is a fact not opinion. Any owner that would undermine the value of their own car is stupid period.

Always buy the newest, best condition 911 you can afford. Better to overpay slightly for the right car than to lowball someone and get a major PITA car that will instantly give you buyer's remorse.

A few dollars now won't even matter when you have a smile on your face for years. Or - try to go low and spend the next 1500 posts complaining about the cost of repairs on your bulletproof supercar.

i overpaid on a *higher* mileage car because it had a bunch of stuff that woulda cost me 25k at least, and since i know what i wanted and what the stuff was i went with it knowing full well i paid a *slight* premium. but that and i NEEDED the car in a day. 5 min test drive zero PPI and forked over a handful of $$. had lots of minor stuff needing repair or replacement, but unlike many others i drive this car a LOT for the sheer joy of it. 120,200k today and my 993 coupe is worth TWICE what the tt is worth. that's insane lol

I wonder in 5 to 10 years if the 996's or 997's will drop in price even more, or just stay in 40-50k range.

I ended up buying an 01 with 22k on it that had one owner. Paid 46. I think I did good but honestly I'm not sure.

personally, i don't think the 997t's will ever take the hit that 996 turbo has. it ( the hit in value ) is bizarre and must be perpetuated by folks that don't own/drive 996 turbos. it has to be lol

This conversation never ends. If anyone bought a 996 because of the potential value, wake up. They are simply great cars, but are still just a car.

I bought mine at a reasonable price about 3 years ago. It brings me a smile at every drive. It's been bulletproof (pls no jinx). I've done some basic mods to make me feel even happier and make it "my own." It gets complements even among far more exotic cars at C&C events.

I don't expect it to lose half its value again, and.... if it bottoms out soon, I'll be tickled. If it continues and gets really low in value, then why sell at all? It's toy to have fun then, without any worry about miles or scared to drive in less than optimal conditions. If it magically does appreciate, then I'll be even happier.

Meanwhile I'm driving it, not worrying about low miles, and having a perpetual smile. Whew...rant over.

I am also shopping for a 996tt, but am a bit puzzled by KBB and NADA values vs asking prices.

It doesn't seem to matter what collection of miles/years/options, the book value is $30's to low $40s, which is allot different to many asking prices.

I know these are great cars and I don't mind paying for a good car, but I also don't want to overpay either.

I have bought 3 Porsches since '01, still have 2 of them. I looked for 15 months for one, and nearly a year for my current Turbo. I've looked at several examples over the last years. Generally the market is all over the place.

Occasionally, but rarely you will find a real gem of a car with all the right stuff, low miles, few owners, truly pristine condition, all books and records, tools and keys, stock condition for prices reflected in NADA and KBB.

Generally the above described example goes for much more or it sells within hours of being listed. Cars that you find in line with NADA and KBB prices reflect care and condition of your average 15 year old car, not very good really.

A few years ago in the pit of the recession, wonderful cars and the true gems could be found at less than NADA and KBB. It was a buyers market. Owners were dumping depreciated assets for what ever they could get. The only buyers were parting with cash if the price was right. Now years later it has paid off.

Today, the owner decides where his car falls in the spectrum of values. A high mile 12 yo beater that still runs OK will be a NADA or KBB car. A nice excellent running car with minor blemishes will bring more. A very nice original, perfect running, everything works, all the right stuff example will cost more yet.
