It actually wasn't my idea but I saw it on the 987 forum on Planet 9.
My Boxster clutch switch decided to go out during my first autocross.
To say I was upset was an understatement. I finally got the car started and just let the motor run all day!

Cheers,
The older techs are probably (?) ok with this mod but I would be afraid a younger tech would get in the car and start the engine without pushing in the clutch first.

In my opinion whatever benefit there is is not worth the risk.

I mean geesh... is it that big of a hardship to depress the clutch pedal before starting the engine?

You all wanted a manual transmission, for the involvement, remember?

The reason I like the delete is the lack of pulling force on the crankshaft during cranking, without any oil pressure...bearing wear.

I think the people who do this mod are the ones with the clutch pedal restriction so that the clutch would not go down far enough to activate the switch (on startup).

I'm going to do this mod over the weekend, I always disabled switch clutch in every car I owned, btw that kill switch is awesome. People press the clutch anyways, plus nobody drives my car, you can print small sticker and slap it next to shifter Reason is: I dont want to press the clutch all the way in...Maybe even that will help for accumulator to last

HAD only bad experience one time, i left the car in gear, when I used to own EVO, Friend of mine---turned the key for stupid reason, he was on passenger side, I dont remember if the car was in second gear, car jumped and died right away. It was pretty scary.

^ exactly. that depress clutch "requirement" has never felt even remotely normal for me, but that ONE time you turn the key in gear and slam into a car in front of you, let's say parked? forget it.

but i admit to wanting to disable it at times also. i don't enjoy any extra or undue pressure on the hyd sysem with engine off since it's so finicky. but it remains clutch in at startup for me, like it or not lol

The extra wear and tear on the clutch system from having to depress the clutch to start the engine is of no consequence.

Also, consider the wear and tear on the starter which is avoided because with the clutch depressed the starter doesn't have to spin the clutch disc and pressure plate and the transmission input shaft with its population of heavy gears.

macster, i'm sorry but having been the purchaser of at least three accumulators that i can remember? i'll never believe that engaging the clutch is EVER without potential consequence

I'm with Macster on this one not worth the chance of having car lurching into car/garage etc or tech doing it. My old muscle cars never had it and I never had an issue but its a nice safety net. I do see why others would want to disable it though.

i see it like the two times i have inadvertently dropped the clutch ( from either forgetfulness and/or stop and go clutch leg exhaustion lol ) in 1st in traffic for the rare moments I'm ever in gear with the clutch engaged while sitting. but man, it is a jolt and half! i winced and was glad no one was in front of me. i can live with the failsafe switch.

I installed the kill switch in my 911T today.
After turning off the car I always flip the kill switch, even at home.
This way there will be no accidental turning on when in gear.
To me it is more important to bypass the cheap clutch switch that is prone to failure.
