Failed Illinois NEW Emission Testing
HI guys,,,Well I had to take my annual 2 yr emissions test to get my plates renewed ,,
I failed ,,
Never failed before >> Reason was they switched to a stricter test procedure now.. Which detected,,,
Reason was Non Supportive Monitors,,,never detected that on prior tests..
I do have large 100 cell HJS cats and all the O2 sensors BUT the tune was made to make it like non cats...Lucky I wasn't catless now..
I guess this type of test is spreading,,that really stinks..
Todd at ProtoMotive said he can send me a new tune that should work with my still hooked up emissions equipment..Then off to Markski .
Getting tougher all over now..

sorry to hear that john. the best approach unless you're in wyoming or BF egypt is to just plan on them sticking a camera up your tailpipe moving forward and to circumvent issues with the testers just remove obviously modded engine comp parts, as best you can. for inspection.
this is all part of "progress" and "moving forward" and all that **** lol

HI,,Thanks..
Here they don't look under car,,under hood or look at anything ,,even if you fail...
Its all by the computer cable link..
I am in good hands with Todd and Markski helping me out...

I've always been able to mitigate an outright "fail" by remedying the issue and going right back and passing.
And was chatting with my test station go to place the other day and he told me the obd is all that matters..While others tell stories of failing red y pipes. I guess it all comes down to where ya go and how often. Out here at least.

those results = a world of hurt out here. you've got five flags and "not supported" meaning the cats aren't even detected? you better untrick your tune, cos that's the start point of your troubles.

That sucks. Thanks for headsup Probaby rear o2 sensors are off.
Best way is to check with tuner. Slap the stock exhaust on and go for emmisions worry free.
I tried to use o2 extenders but ce light was still showing so my rear o2s are off. Maybe my rear o2 sensors are bad. But i dont think you can cheat. Computer is pretty sensitive.
Btw if you need stock exhaust Im willing to let you borrow to just pass emmisions. But i need it back next day :]

It was only a matter of time until they updated the procedure. Since every OBD2 car should support catalyst and O2 sensors, I was surprised the didn't fail cars that had them tuned out before.

In the state of WA they allow you to take your car to a shop, certified by the state, and "attempt" to make the needed repairs. You have to spend a minimum amount, think its $200. Then you bring the receipt in showing you "attempted" to fix your car and they will give you the new registration. I had to do this with my M5 after mods and tune. There are a couple of approved shops that will help you out with the "attempt" I would get some preventative maintenance done and bring them the receipt and be done. Check your states laws and see if there is a similar loop hole.

here if you make "adjustments" and are still denied, you have to contact a referee, and from those i know that've done that, they are fairly understanding of our dillema(s). just an added pita and just more running around/appt's etc.
