Le Mans Brake kit Group buy! Anyone interested?
FYI - Brembo only makes 4 or 8 pistoin fronts...nno 6...FOr that you would have to go GT2/GT3 fronts.
TofeeGT2 - Did you contact MattLA?? His price was a bit better than my source but I will talk to him on Monday and see how much discount we get for 2 sets (you and I) - let me know how serious you are before I invest time into this...

DOnt know what you mean by a bracket but I think so....there is a metal arm that bolts to the stock assembly then the brembo caliper bolts to this...There are pics on EVO's website under brakes for 996TTof the parts including in the GT kit...
That is what I thought, i.e., the Porsche mounting centers are non standard and, as such, almost all after market calipers require a mounting bracket which adds even more weight as well as potential clearance issues and failure points. Not that I wish to delay you, but, given the substantial expense of these calipers (as I understand it, in excess of $9000), could you wait until mid 2004 for a considerably better solution?

Robert: Can you give us a hint what will be available next year? Knowing you it will be something to wait for. Are you still planning your coming out party in January? Please keep me informed on the new project. Fish
Party will probably be after February 9 as Daytona is the previous weekend and a number of things have come up for January. As to the calipers, without saying too much, I believe they will be better in multiple ways, will be lighter and will offer certain new features and, additionally, they should be a direct bolt on rather than requiring an adaptor bracket. In any event, unless one is absolutely in need of new calipers, I would, without doubt or hesitation, wait.
Robert is being polite. The eight piston calipers are heavy and archaic. No prime time team I know of tracks them. It sounds like even my two year old GT3RS system is about to become antique. Please keep us posted Robert.
Robert,
Your information is grossly incorrect. The 8-piston front & 4-piston rear is significantly lighter than the factory turbo brakes. The six piston caliper from the GT3 is almost twice as heavy as the lightweight 8-piston monoblock caliper used in the "LeMans Style" kit.
I think you guys may be thinking of the wrong caliper.
8 Piston Caliper.
The 8-piston caliper used in the "LeMans Style" kit is almost identical to the one above. The main difference will be the piston sizes.
It is much lighter, stiffer and way more responsive than the factory Turbo or GT3 calipers. It's a whole different beast. Plus you get 2pc fully floating rotors. Yes, the 2pc 15" disc and hat also weighs much less that the factory 13.6" rotors. I believe the total weight savings is more than 8lbs per corner (I think this may be modest).

I have been doing some research and I have some info that may clear some things up. This is what is currently offered for the 996TT from Brembo.
Grand Turismo
This kit utilizes a 15" rotor with 8 piston front caliper. The stock wheels *will not* fit around these brakes. I am currently working on a list of aftermarket wheels that will.
Many of you know that HRE is currently working on a new motorsport series of wheels. While in Las Vegas for the SEMA show I had a meeting with the engineers at HRE. I informed them of the popularity of this kit and urged them to source schematics so the new wheels be designed with the proper clearances. This is important since the motorsport wheels will not be offered in 19".
There are two kits that are available for the rear. There is a 13.6" kit with 4 piston caliper and a 14" with a 4 piston caliper. The 14" kit does use a larger caliper, but there are pedal feel issues. The spongy pedal is due to piston sizing so the 13.6" kit with the smaller caliper is highly recommended.
Grand Turismo 15/4 Kit
This kit was designed for the end user that is looking to save weight while still retaining a street oriented setup. This kit uses a 15" front and 13.6" rear rotor with basic 4 piston calipers. What sets this kit apart is that the rotors used are the lightweight motorsport units.
Motorsport
This kit is designed for heavy track use and racing. These are the calipers seen on most race cars that have the goldish hue. Calipers are available in two different setups. There is an optional 8 piston front caliper or 4 piston front caliper. They both use a 15" rotor. The rears use a 13" rotor with a 4 piston caliper.
These are 9lbs lighter than the GT kit and will handle a ton of heat and abuse. Just an fyi though, these calipers *do not* come with dust seals and will be noisy. Since they do not come with seals there will be maintenance involved.
The motorsport calipers are only sold as a matched set.
We have a local Porsche owner that had a myriad of problems with his PCCB on his GT2. He said the brakes were worthless after a few hotlaps. He also stated that his wife's standard 996TT would out brake it all day long with just a a set of Pagid orange.
He recently installed the motorsport kit and said the difference is night and day.
It's a shame they don't come with the dust seals or they would be the perfect set up for the street and track...
Hope this info helps.
