2001 Porsche 911 Turbo SQ Audio Build
Just curious, how much power does your audio setup drain the battery ? Do you see a dip in voltage on your voltmeter on your dash ? During high volumes and you're car idling.
I believe Porsche recommended 150 amp replacement alternators. The original one might be 100-120 amp ?

The XS power battery has lots of reserve power which helps the electrical system to keep a stable voltage and supply current needed. The 3 amplifiers have very low current draw even at high volumes. I wouldnt run 3 amps if your going to be using an oem stock battery. I see no sign of dipping when volume is at full.
I've gotten to listen to this car - the sound quality was damned nice! Once I've got an exhaust in my car that allows you to hear yourself think without droning I'll be looking to do a similar setup - bonus these guys are somewhat local! I think I've been convinced to use the same headunit but I think an ARC 1200.6 amp might be more reasonable for my budget. I might go with a small 8inch sub, something unobtrusive and a small amp to drive it. The DSP seems to be where the real magic comes from and I like the fact that you end up with a volume **** vs the silly hunt and peck buttons on the HU which seems to be all the rage. The component speakers in this just really sounded terrific with ZERO need to install anything in the back speaker locations. Really want to do something unobtrusive with the amps and if possible keep the spare although I'm on the fence about that since it seems of limited use lol!
I'll be in touch for sure once my exhaust is onboard! :-D

I've always found higher amp alternators to be nice for keeping fuel pumps and everything else spun up at WOT but the moment you say "Porsche" people either run away or charge 2x it seems. Getting a stock unit rewound might be the way to go if you have a spare, I did that with my Supra and was thrilled with the results! I don't suppose our alternator is shared with a VW by chance? Lol
Excellent build! The write-up was great, with all the pics... Where in MD is the shop? And where in NOVA is the lucky new owner of this setup?
Also, what are your plans for the engine - since we on 6speed after all.
It looked like you might have had a Proto exhaust out back... looks like mine anyways, only blacked out.
Great install and documentation... would love to see/hear the car sometime.

Well shop is in frederick MD. Car is currently in Haegerstown getting a new look. Putting RUF bumper and a color change is in order. I am in fairfax. Should have car back after the 1st of the year. It truly is an amazing sound system. Plans for the motor are either a built 3.6 or 3.8 with GTX 30's syveccs and fuel. ERP triple should be here this week. engine build hopefully be in the summer or winter of next year. not sure yet.
