Any 996 sunroof delete panels at last?
Any 996 sunroof delete panels at last?
This is one product that hasn't come available for the 996. Or, have you guys found one at last?
You have these available for almost all sports cars models, even for the 997, but not for the 996? For the companies out there, this would be a very easy cf product to produce.
With this panel you could get rid of the sunroof and the heavy motor, and thus save weight easily without replacing the whole roof.
My friends have done carbon roofs to 996s with good success, so can consider that option as well. But I am not that keen on a 1k+ CF roof and a 2k+ install job. Specially as the weight savings are not THAT dramatic, around -12kg with steel panel and around -18kg with cf panel...not more.

The 996/997 solid roof is the same part. I paid about $450 wholesale two years ago. Retail is around 600-700 I guess. The plug is an option and I think someone makes one as I remember some guy doing it on Rennlist a few years back. I spoke to a shop about doing the plug a while back and they told me it will be very hard to blend and fill the plug and make the roof panel look flawless. They told me that the amount of extra labor involved in doing a perfect job will largely offset the cost difference to do it properly by swapping out the whole center piece panel. Be aware that if you are planning on keeping the interior you will need a new headliner as the sunroof version will not be reusable. New headliner is $1700+ and used ones are not exactly easy to come by. I did a thread on while back that details all the parts required for the swap. I weighed everything that was removed and put back in during the conversion and the savings comes out to 26 lbs. give or take a few ounces..
i remember reading that thread and even the pics. yours ended up looking flawless, but not nearly inexpensive as i remember it. ok, maybe not 7k.. but still too rich for my blood sadly. great mod tho...

though i take some comfort knowing many of my "important" bits are similar to your choices lol. but in mods, i'll never catch up!
cheers.
