K16 Hybrid on stock clutch?
K16 Hybrid on stock clutch?
Hey Guys, Thinking of doing K16 hybrids(or Billets) + injectors and tune on my TT. I already have an EPL tune for the past 5 yrs on it... have 35k miles on the car. I've had the tune since the car had 6k miles.
Just curious if anybody has K16 Hybrids with or without Injectors on a stock clutch.

i have and it was good for about 3 years before i needed to replace it. there was never one moment of slippage ( though i barely use the clutch ) but when i opened it up for trans work, thats when ya do it.
only reason i know a stock clutch will handle hybrids and a tune is thats what mine has. with the required bits. just add the gt2 disc. everyone else will tell you upgrade to sachs 2.5 "kit" 964 pp and whatever.
but all you NEED if you use your clutch only to change gears in a tuned car is an oem sachs and a gt2 disc. it's the cheapest too lol. i really employ the "k.i.s.s principle whenever i can, and for the clutch upgrade time oem was fine. btw i'm rwd at about 475rwhp +/-.
add: i meant three years on MY watch! lol. lord only knows how many times it went around willow springs before i got her. she and i we don't talk about that much lol

Thanks for the info. Just to clarify, I was asking how would the my 100% stock clutch handle Billet K16 + Injectors and a tune. I think you have sock mixed in with other parts.

sorry. yeah mine are the older hybrids. my bad.
2nd read. i'm not sure there's a world of difference for your purposes. i have 16/24 hybrids and i thought thats how you phrased the question.
either way, what i offered isn't too far afield in terms of truth lol

I have the K16 hybrids, 5 bar, and tune.
My stock clutch lasted for several months but started slipping at the track several weeks ago. I am easy on the clutch and my previous cars went over 100K on the same clutch.
Before doing any turbo upgrade I highly suggest planning to install an upgraded clutch in the future.
Now my car is in the shop getting the Sachs 2.5, injectors, oem fuel pressure regulator, IPD plenum, remaining 2 coolant lines pinned, and a few other small things. Once the engine goes back in tomorrow I will install an upgraded tune.

With your mods you only make 475?

yeah, i figure. if the setup i have is usually estimated and widely estimated to be 550 crank. so i figure conservatively that. does that sound right? but thankfully it is rwhp so i would imagine less drivetrain loss even than awd. i'd like to think i'm 500 to the wheels but +/- that's pretty close.

I thought 16/24 billet turbos made minimum 550awhp.

?! well, one way to look at it *might* be that my car once a k16 went from 414 crank to a smidgen over the 550/575 crank with all the "usual" bits that 16/24's require in order to maximize their potential and of course exhaust/tune etc.
the difference is significant and night/day over a stock car. i don't know what all you've done, so i couldn't even guess as to whether it would be "worth" it for "your" car. but again, from a stock k16 car to one with hybrid 16/24's. night/day is fairly accurate in my estimation and experience, which of course is limited only to my having known only: k16. k24's ( x50 car ) and then this current one modded w 16/24's. ymmv!

I have the EVOMS GT610 kit. On a Mustang dyno, the car made 526 awhp and 515 awtq. K16 hybrids may be a little harder on the clutch as they may spool faster and make more bottom end torque than my Gt28/64 turbos
If I don't do dragstrip launches or speed shift the car, the clutch holds with no issue. BTW the car now has 70,000 miles on it and the kit was installed at approximately 35,000 miles.
