Porsche RS Spyder wins ALMS Debut !

Nice start for the Porsche RS Spyder..early in development, but looks like it may have enough overall speed to be overall race winner at some point.

LeMans, here we come !

Hey Doc,
I wish I knew more about all these different series. I guess I'm admitting that I'm a newbie to racing. I'm not a big fan of NASCAR. (No hate mail, please.) However, I'd like to learn more about the different series and their heirarchy. Is there a good website or publication that caters to newbies? Please advise.

P.S. I'm still lovin' that picture of the F40.

Dave

Porsche has said they will only run the car in the ALMS next year -- will not race at LeMans. I hope they change their mind.

How did the Lambos do? Oh, wait . . .

But aren't they going to b selling a few cars next year? Maybe the non-factory teams will race at LeMans???

Just debut a Gallardo Gt3 that placed 2nd in class.

A Gallardo placed second in class at ALMS? I don't think so. BTW, I love the Gallardo and wish Lambo would aggressively get involved in racing.

RS Spyder shows how superior Porsche can be if they actually put their minds to it.

Time for an LMP-1 car already, those Audis are becoming old news.

Of course, I was happy to see White Lightning take the championship in the GT2 category... amazing when you consider how much more support AJR gets...

Some thoughts from this weekend:

I must say the RS spyder (Panzerwagon) was the largest rolling sandbag I have ever seen. It was also one of the best looking & sounding lmp cars I have ever heard or seen. Unfortunately, for Porsche and Penske they missed a huge opportunity for an overall win. I really think they were shooting for an overall at Laguna. There were more support personnel for this car than all 3 lmp2 teams combined. They came to win overall period! Hence, the delay for its debut at Atlanta.

Why would Porsche be satisfied with a class win with only 3 other privateer competitors (whose cars are tired (worn out)from a whole season)? Especially, when the competition (lmp2) either run a 2.0l turbo or a 3 rotor motor. Porsche brought a na v8. After the practice sessions (posting 4 sec a lap quicker than the next lmp2/ posting 1:15-16's (full fuel) same as lmp1) the powers that be at the ALMS were all over this car. Expect to see more weight added to the Pcar and a smaller restrictor. Even in its current design it was no match for the LMP1 Zytech which won by a 1.5 laps. The probability of this car taking an overall win in the future is very unlikely.

The future of this car? Lets just say the ALMS wants competition among the classes "for the fans". There is talk of some of the lmp2 teams moving to lmp1 leaving an open field for Porsche in lmp2. ALMS will more than likely motivate other competitors to stay or move into lmp2 with more liberal rules for the 2.0lt. Plus, AER (builders of the 2.0lt) rumoured to have a 520hp v8 (w/restrictor) vs. porsche 480hp to campaign in lmp2 for 06.

Just imagine the pit crew for a Lambo team...
guys wearing prison overalls, bling bling stop watches, doing the rap between tire change. Ali would be the commentator, etc.

The Playa team - Lambo- always last

AllanLambo,
My advise sell all your cars and buy a Porsche 996 TT reason why;

Gallardo headlights have been compared to Celica's, the Gallardo has been said to look too much like the Murcielago, and the rear end is said to look like a Cadillac.
If you look you closely there is a slight resemblance between the two cars, mainly the angular lines, taillight housing and design, scruntched-up back-end, among other things.

Any curve, anywhere drive a Porsche!
