What is more fun: tiptronic 996 T or manual 997 S?
Hey guys .....
I have 996 '99 C2. manual trans. Pretty fun to drive to work...
I take it 3 times per week. And enjoy it on the highway.
Lately thinking of changing it to even more fun.
So every one says T is the next step.
However, I am unable to find a manual T in local market.
Just came across 2005 T with 50000 miles on it. Tiptronic.
Colour is great and seems to be in good condition.
Also found 2007 997 S(converted to 2012 uplift), manual trans. Yellow color.
Same price as the T.
What is your take on these choices?
Is it even worth changing the c2 to either?
I am managing C2 maintenance cost within my budget. Will I need to pay significantly more if I change to either (997 S or the 996T)??

This question is really quite subjective, depending on how you feel about driving a manual versus an automatic/tiptronic.
For example, the pure fun factor (to me) of driving a manual car of even significantly lesser performance would outweigh that of a more powerful auto/tip car.
If a manual turbo is what you think you're after, I'd suggest you drive one before deciding on another variant.

Having owned both (and a manual 996tt) etc. I can say that the answer is 100% 997s.
BUT I wouldn't but 997.1 S again! If you're looking at 997.2 than take one with Sport Chrono and you'll have a blast!
I've driven 997S for about 30k miles. Bought low milage car. In 30k miles I've suffered IMS failure and then cracked 6th cyl on a new 14k miles engine. The car is a blast with Sport Chrono but it really took the joy out of driving with engine problems. Edit: "engine problems" = purchased 2 18k$ engines in a matter of 12 months
996tt with tip feels heavy, will annoy you with slow shifts etc. take it out for a test drive and see if you can live with it.

Like I said. I would buy 997 if he can find a good 997.2. Other than that I personaly wouldn't buy 996tt tip. I ended up with one thru a business deal and didn't like it at all. No offense to guys that own one! 996tt is a beast no matter what!
As far as driving experience goes my personal order would be: 996tt manual > 997S > 996tt tip.

PDK > single clutch manual > auto/tip.
I'd take a PDK 997S over a 996 w/Tiptronic (I did, actually). I'd take a base 997 PDK over an S with single clutch manual. Something about those silky smooth instantaneous shifts is just mind-boggling, even after driving primarily dual clutch cars for about 6 1/2 years (only have 2 single clutch cars left - those don't have replacements yet (until Fiat does something about the Alfa roadster (smaller than 4C))). But after driving 2 tiptronic cars, then dual clutches - I'll pass on anything with a tiptronic.
So, back on topic - 997S single clutch manual > 996T w/Tip.

So I am looking for a manual over a PDK.
But surprisingly, in local market more than 90% sold are Tippys!!
So I guess the hunt will go on.
Part of the P ownership experience is: "looking and waiting for the right car to come along". This is what I can tell from my as well others experience.
Meanwhile, I would enjoy my ride to and from work on the C2, that has just passed the 151000 km mark over the last week.....
