P0342 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Low Input

P0342 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Low Input
has anyone ever had this cel OR any experience swapping out the sensors? i'm reluctant to begin my usual throwing parts at it methodology, but this can't be anything major unless i've chipped a timing chain tooth/ and i think i would have determined something that catastrophic by now. car runs perfect ( so far!? ) no rough idle/starting nothing odd like stalls etc.
apparently this cel can be caused by a bad starter, low battery, loose ground strap, or wires to alt? but generally speaking ( from what I've read ) all roads lead back to faulty cam position sensors. it would really help to hear of anyone having had the issue with the cel pointing to a LOW input bank one, as opposed to hi output since thats not what i'me getting. just changed my oil and cell occurred the next day. dont think "we" banged into anything, and car runs like a stung mule, though drive to shop cel will go on at 1.2 bar. thats all i got
any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had to replace on of my camshaft position sensors. It's a pretty easy job. Diagnosing it took some thought, though, since the code I got was not actually for the sensor and the factory service manual made no mention of the sensor being the possible cause. I just monitored those inputs in the Durametric and made an executive decision to replace the sensor with positive results.
You can get the sensor from advance auto. Order online with a coupon code from retailmenot and pickup in store.

Besides the cel(s) did you have any symptoms??, I have zero.
Thx BTW.....

Executive decision! I like that. Since my 30$handheld reader is pointing to those I AM trying to avoid the 100,per hr diagnostic route since if it IS as simple as a bad 50$,part I can swap it with my bud in the driveway. I don't trust shops any more than necessary.

That dovetails with it seemingly occurring at 1.2. If you're right you're gonna be 2 for 2 with my recent bearing plate r&r (,good call ) and on my next Xmas list. Lucky you ha..
All kidding aside... Thanks.

Let's hope. If there's anything my wife will say I live for it's being right.

credit where it's due. me, I'm more like the broken clock that's right twice a day merely by default.

did you know.. that true to the diagnostic info about the code and the possible causes ( P0342 ) that while the cam position sensor may in fact BE faulty or intermittently failing..
that a low battery can often cause this cel and code to occur! i only mention it since i ordered the part from pelican and before i rip out all the intake etc, i decided it has been quite awhile since i put my car on the trickle charger.. left it hooked up a solid two days, and low and behold, try as i might i can NOT get my drive to workshop CEL to recur while it was happening nearly at startup just prior to my trying the tender ( and ordering the 50$ part lol ). now any 1.2 is without issue and startup and idle all is same. just NO CODE.
i'll still install the CPS ( since i bought it wtf! ) but just add this to one more niggling feature of a low battery and how critically important to the proper running of ALL elec functions of this car a fully charged battery is! i figured driving it daily was enough and forgot my own advice to trickle it bi-weekly whether it "needed" it, or not.
just some added anecdotal info....these cars are voltage HOGS lol

hence the term "throwing parts"! I ordered it before I even bothered to trickle charge. so far not ONE cel & "drive to.. NOT" lol
we shall see, but have the CPS in hand ready to go. cpl hour install tops
gotta love pelican. order Friday had it sat by 2 pm!

I had the CEL too - I reset my codes and it didn't come back. However, in my research I think I remember reading that the car does something like 6000 start cycles before it will check/throw the code again.
Come to think of it though, my battery might have crapped out shortly after that and I replaced it with an AGM Bosch

it has yet to return. hoping, since i dont feel like yanking out the intake etc even though i have the new part already. it literally suggests that a low battery will throw this specific code "p0342 CPS low input", so i'm not in the least surprised. just pissed as my battery isn't yet a year old ... grrrr.

i was getting/clearing the cel about 10x a day. since charging ( car is trickling after my daily sprint as i type ..
