trans main shaft seal removal

Any advice on how to get it out?

Its not going well.

I read some where that a guy just pushed it into the trans and pulled the diff cover off to retrieve it.

I have put a couple holes in it at this point trying the basic self threading screws and pulling that way.

Heat?

I use screws that do not have drill tips, they remove metal by drilling a hole. I use finely pointed screws as they start a small hole and work it out larger witch seems to give greater holding strength.

I was actually able to just barely catch the edge of it and slowly pry it on two sides that deformed it enough.

I had already nearly obliterated it with holes, they with a short flathead screwdriver I slowly pried one way, then the other and it "inched" its way out.

What a pain...but I got the new seated...One of my floor jack handled ended up being just the right fit to lightly tap it in.
