What would you do....?
jim, i have yet to read more than the first cpl pages, but when you(?) suggest it'll happen to "most if not all 997tt's" is that (a) your assertion? or (b) the consensus of the 8+page thread?
and is that "will happen" analogous to the assertion by many that "all 996 turbo's will blow their coolant fittings one day, sooner or later".
because well all know there is no consensus on THAT one either. i just have such a hard time reconciling the notion that porsche builds catastrophic failure into their cars such as that vario camshaft issue. 996 IMS issues NOTwithstanding

I thought all Water cooled Mezger engines have the same coolant fittings and are prone to the same issues.
)
I sit in it often and make vroom noises does that count?
Ok Mark, let me rephrase it, the not so better Spun Cam shaft is happening over at the 997T forum, even low mile cars are getting it.

but my albeit possibly misguided "faith" that the 96t coolant fitting failure issue is more anomaly, ( yeah, until it happens here,. i know...
) than it is a time dependent "certainty" may in point of fact be "wishful thinking"!. so i just wanted your take on whether they might be on par with one another relative to frequency of occurrence, as i respect your opinion. but perhaps you too know little of the camshaft issue also out of non necessity!
i wasn't being provocative! i genuinely was curious and dont know nearly enough about the weaknesses or peccadillos of the 97platform as i've never had the pleasure of owning, I've just beat a couple of of em up

I have a 996TT and my buddy a 997TT. I like the upgraded looks and interior of the 997. If I had the money I'd buy a 997 for the looks and additional performance.
I paid $35k for my car with 50k miles end of 2012 and he paid $70k with 45k miles end of 2013. Literally double the cost. He has the cash that it's no big deal, whereas I could have done it but it would be a big deal to me, possible but not financially wise. It's really up to your snack bracket and money you can comfortably spend on a luxury.
Can I say spending the extra $35k on a 997 would make me that much happier? Not really, I love driving my car, it's fast looks good and I feel a Huge bargain performance wise per dollar. That part of it makes me feel really good.

Thank you all for the advice and opinions.
After a lot of thinking I made the decision and purchased a 07 997 Turbo. I just fell in love with the interior and the front of the car. As much as love the 996, I just knew I would be always thinking of the 997 so I decided to do it now.
