How do you feel about them putting turbos in 2016 lineup
I'm honestly not impressed, nor un-impressed with the direction Porsche is going. They are no longer the tiny company whose only product is hand built world class sports cars and a top racing competitor. This is how I have perceived Porsche for decades.
What they do with new models has no bearing on how I value or enjoy my car. Generally, the newer models keep getting further and further away from attracted me to the 996 TT. I wanted a Porsche Cabriolet with the Metzger motor in the 996 body style. I would have taken the same car with a GT3 N/A motor as well.
I like my 6 speed, the timeless curvy style of the body and interior, the visceral driving experience. It's closer to the 993 than the 997 in many ways. I don't think I'll ever buy a newer Porsche as my 996 fulfills everything I'm looking for.
There is no way I would have spent what my car stickered for new, let alone up to $200K OTD for an upper shelf new model.

^ i appreciate your take, as well as what continues to attract you to the car. but if the fun i had in a 991s is any indication? i would LOVE to have a std carerra that just so happened to be turbocharged. it wouldn't really matter to me that the car would sticker at 100k+ while the TURBO i would want ( some variation of the 991 T/gt2 or even 3 ) would be well over 200k!
i think my point is the fun i could have could be almost as easily be gleaned from a 911S as it could a "proper" turbo. that may be my bias but until i got hooked on porsche turbo's i had heretofore always driven brand new mid level "luxury" cars, that had beans AND warranties ( and loaners/shuttles have i mentioned "loaners"?! lol )
you probably get my ( winded ) point. to summarize, if i could get a proper 911s that was turbocharged, a 991TT *might* be less necessary for my daily needs as a *driver* and the accompanying point of view as such.

They view HP the same way that Apple (AAPL) views data consumption - as a tool to segregate different types of buyers.
You want 100 hp, take car a, 140hp, car b....etc etc.
So even thought a carrera MAY have a turbo, it will STILL be neatly pigeon holed at *exactly* the right place.
Now that I've written it out, I am confident that Porsche WILL have a turbo carrera...it will be slotted above the GTS and below the Turbo.
This way, they can EASILY offer 30 HP more and collect $30K more from customers who want more power than a carerra, but don't have 200k for a turbo.
Maybe it will simply be called the Carrera S? Nah, b/c that will mean that the std carrera may get a 3.8.
Nickels and dimes folks..nickels and dimes.
i've been operating from the assumption that's what has been leaked. is it NOT? a base carerra but possibly a 911S? because when i first read of it, it was that ALL 911's would soon be turbocharged. i could be completely wrong, or simply have been high.
but that base assumption is why i thought i understood the OP's initial post. can you clarify?

that was my understanding also. they'll surely stagger their 911 product lineup in many of the ways they do now. except they'll all be turbos. but i imagine it'll be like my 335i or vw. turbocharged, but not badged as such, per se.
