How do you feel about them putting turbos in 2016 lineup
I kinda have mixed feelings, The "911 Turbo" was supposed to be the flagship of the Porsche line up for years. That little Turbo badge let you know you had something special.
I think it will take away from the "exclusivity" (if it exists) if everyone is driving around in a new turbo 911. how are they going to badge them now
I'm still not sure if I'm driving around in a 911 Carrera-Turbo or just 911-Turbo

i think the cachet has been lost for too many reasons to list. but it all has to do with vag.
my old vw has a turbo for cryin out loud, so their uniqueness may have been diminished ( and i agree has been ), but a mezger engined turbo will ALWAYS be "special".

but turbos aren't that efficient. they just let a smaller displacement motor make the same power of a larger displacement one, you end up burning the same as a large NA.
isnt that for everythingBut not every 911 Turbo has a mezger engine

if i'm reading your initial question correctly? the question is will it lessen the intrinsic or for that matter the "perceived" "value" of having a 911 turbo, once all 911's have turbo charged motors? then if i had to venture a guess i'd say possibly, but only to a few and i won't be one. if i was going to get a new 911s i'd want it to be turbocharged, wouldn't you?
but my 96t will always be special to me for variety of reasons, but most specifically its mezger motor
but it's not going to matter to me whether new 911's are all turbos or not.

Displacement will be cut way down, I would think they'll make just a few horses more than a N/a 911 does now and the flag ship turbo will still have a large cube motor. I also wouldn't think real world mpg will go up much. What do you guys think?
I like your style! 😜 Reading your post in the LED thread makes me wanna buy you a beer if I'm ever in your home town! 😃
i never imagined my tt would be my fuel economy car lol...
This topic is also being discussed by the 997 turbo crowd. It's an interesting move on Porsche's part. One thing is certain though: the Porsche marketing department still places value on the "turbo" branding for the flagship cars in their model line. Look at the current Cayenne and Macan that have already gone through this transformation and you'll see it in action. The top end cars in the line are badged "turbo" while the S model cars are badged "S" even though they are also turbocharged.
Porsche is quite adept at manipulating performance figures between models. They carefully control horsepower, acceleration times, top speed, etc. They became experts at this when the Boxster was launched and it threatened to outperform the base model 911 C2.
In my opinion, a "turbo" badge will always mean something special in the 911 line and it will always be reserved for the flagship. Porsche will always dress it with a more exotic look and give it options that aren't available in the other 911 models. The only real change will be that it will be much easier for the owners of the base and S models to modify them with software to increase their performance to turbo levels (or above them!).

thats truly kind of you. i'm never really an assho*e in person either. i'm way too short HA.
actually, i'm thinking of moving to your neck o the woods so that beer on ME! might actually happen. thx for the very kind words
cheers!
997 gained some weight and bloat
991 no 6sp and the electronic power steering
Maybe its me just getting old but I like the mechanical feel of a car. That is where I value feel over a slight increase in speed. I want driving to be an experience.
