I'm curious exactly which fitting popped the adhesive this time. Please let us know. I've pinned all the "easy" ones already.

I just had my car in to my mechanic to have all the "Big Fix" items done as I have 59K miles. My mechanic recommended the coolant pipe fix as the engine was out. After reading this, I'm glad I spent the few extra dollars.....

I would look at all maintenance, clutch and the Torque Solution GT1 Engine Water Pipe Repair Kit. Now if you have some extra coin - maybe look at also doing the Upgraded Turbo Inlet Pipes.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Chris, do you literally weld those onto the items? As in use a tig welder? I picked up a 996T recently and am now wondering if I should preemptively perform this on the car. It has 56k miles on it.

Weld, glue, or pin. If you weld, pressure test for pinholes. If you glue rough it up and use good glue - I've heard JB Weld being used but there may be others more suitable - pressure test. Pinning I'm a little less sure of the process other than its mechanical to prevent the exit of the fitting and obviously some sealant or glue too. Pressure test...

There's at least one YouTube vid on this, starts with "remove engine"

For us, welding is the best way to do it for longevity but it does have to be tested but so do all of them really before you re-install the motor. It would be a headache to remove the engine again because they were not quality tested before install.

Is it inevitable that all 996TTs are going to suffer from this?
I have '01 with 35k so far and would like to track the car one day, should I wait until this eventually happens?
I don't daily the car and its garaged in winter, I'm wondering if usage affects how soon or long the failure will occur, meaning if I rarely use it am I at greater or lesser risk to the coolant failure issue.

If you track the car do so only with water and perhaps Water Wetter onboard unless you've done this corrective process. Apparently some tracks will not allow you to drive on them without this, if you pop one of these with standard coolant it will immediately grease your rear tires and quite possibly collect a few of the cars behind you. This makes tracks "grumpy" as you might imagine! Is it inevitable? IMO yeah, it likely is

my car has been to the track so many times the calipers are completely faded pink. 125k and i hope it never happens to me of course, but I'm still in the shrinking group of people that think although this is definitely a real and present danger for any of us still running with the oem glue. i just think there a whole lot more 96t's that have not had the coolant fitting(s) fail, than ones that have. kind of like you only hear of the problems, not the cars absent issues. but yeah, i guess i would do a preventative if i had engine fully out. but not sold on the idea of pinning/welding as a prophylactic pre-emptive measure. but the car isn't tracking anymore, it's out to pasture, happily hill climbing. i can see why tracks might not let them run though. i get that part.

Let me take a guess it was the coolant line behind the alternator?

There's two that fail a lot that's the one behind the alternator and the one below that.

are those the couple that most talk about being able to get to without having "engine out"?

i sure have nothing against doing this "fix" proactively though i'm sure people think i'm a naysayer.. but i wouldn't wanna drop the motor JUST to re-pin/weld or whatever. but if i "tracked"? it would've been done already.

but no reason at all not to get to the ones that are within reach! i get that!
