'15 market price for 6GT2.
What do you guys think they're worth at the moment....and what would you speculate them commanding in the years to come?
317 allocated for North America with a hefty sum having already been totaled.
I feel like they hit the bottom of their depreciation curves last year when I found mine. In your opinion, have they started their ascent? And will the introduction of the limited run 6speed only focused and uber perfect GT4 hinder said speculated rise in value?
I almost feel like listing my car for sale so I can get on the list for this GT4...but I can't with any amount of certainty predict how it (gt4) will do in the secondhand market and how it'll impact late model pcar sports cars.
My estimate for bottomline is 76 and higher end 93k?
spec away..

Hah! You knew I would say it.
Probably right around 80-85 is what I would guess.
they are going up fairly quickly, I've been hunting for a few GT2's for guys who've PM'd me...the market is pretty dry and clean copies seem to sell quick for good money, different market from a few years ago...
Values, maybe beaters at $60k and very low mile/original-clean at up to$120-140k..

From what I've read in a couple of Porsche magazines, they have tipped the 6GT2 to be one of the biggest gainers in the next coming years. What some of the writers or contributors have said are that the car is currently undervalued.
996 gt2 is a keeper. one of the fewer 996 anythings that will gain over the coming years. but thats just a hunch. think of it this way, everyone talks of how the 996 turbo is the last of the "raw" turbos and has an "analog" feel" to it.
extrapolate that by ten,.. the gt2.. ya lucky bastids
lol

How anyone could even consider going from a 911 to a cayman is beyond me. (Esp a gt2) Like going to a steak joint ordering the filet and then changing your mind half way through meal to a chesse burger.

don't sleep on the GT4, its basically full of GT3 parts. Porsche is bringing it back to basics essentially for the driver and for under 100k, supposedly, I wonder how much they will really go for.
meaning it will hold its own? from what little I've read, it ( should? ) will be an awesome little track weapon. they'll get snapped up and initially be above sticker. but then will fall even like a gt2rs lol ( drool )
I know it is typically a bad financial move, but have you talked with any dealers regarding a potential trade in? Given the rarity of the GT2, a Porsche dealer might be willing to give fair market for it, in order to have it as a showroom piece. And with the trade in, you would only pay sales tax on the difference, not the total cost of the GT4. This could save you $4~$8k in sales tax depending on the state and save the hassle of dealing with tire kickers/ dreamers.
I think the GT4 is going to be a kickass car, but no way would I trade any GT2 for one. Given that it costs about as much as a base 991, there will be plenty of GT4's around. It isn't the $200+k car the GT2 was. The GT4's will depreciate like every other new car out there.
thanks for everyone's input! While I have a bit of internal conflict about trading up/down, I don't think I'd actually list my car for sale in favor of the GT4...barring someone handing me 100k for it today.
The driving force for this thread was mostly to start up gt2 speculation. Nobody saw the 7.1GT3RS appreciation skyrocket in the way that it did. I vividly remember seeing a kermit green RS on autotrader listed in the high 70's 30 years ago. Entirely on tangent, I noticed Leh Keen picked up a kermit right around that time and suspect he got that crazy steal.
Either way, it was sort of an overnight thing imo...boom one day pumpkin and kermit RS's are commanding absurd money...while 7.1/2GT3's followed a more rational appreciation curve.
I think the 6GT2 production run was even more limited? And there's something unsettling yet desirable about a car that's earned the moniker 'widowmaker' with no nannies. A very small market might appreciate and pay high dollar for one in the years to come....how much is up to speculation.
The GT4 is going to be absurd!!! in the best way. It's getting a 6speed only tranny and a 3.8 from the 991S. Add the very limited run (alleged) of around 600 for the first year, and I think people are going to start fighting at sticker markup for allocations. If I didn't appreciate the 6gt2 as much as I do, it would be an easy trade. Drive to/from track with a warranty and enjoy the handling characteristics of a mid engined super cayman...I can't even imagine my track times . I'm pretty familiar with oversteer, but I haven't really accepted the idea of countersteering at triple digit speeds. Needless to say, I'm a puss at high speed sweepers on track in the GT2.
