Time to get a "tune up"
Time to get a "tune up"
Next week my boys will be on Spring Break so I'm dropping the car off to my trusty mechanic to get "tune up". As of right now, this is my list.
1. pin the eight coolant pipes
2. change out the fluid in the transmission and front diff (OEM or something better?)
3. change out the intercoolers (been sitting in my garage)
4. upgrade the coils and change the plugs (997 OEM?, colder plugs?)
5. serpentine belt
6. water pump (which part #)
7. engine mounts and tranny mount (which part #, 997?)
Anything else do I need to. I want to get everything done without dropping the engine. That will be next year : )
What do you think of this?

Thank you for reading and suggestions. I just want to get this done right.

If you dropping the engine next year i would hold on to coolant pipes, unless you drive it hard and use the car on the track - thats my suggestion.
fluid in trans and front diff and dont forget clutch and brake fluid
(oem fluids) thats what i always use. Any fluids i always stick to oem
serpentine belt, depends on the millage on the car I went with Gate belt $25
(still its cheap to change it and belts are cheap) I suggest oem
Is your water pump bad?
engine mounts are polly good idea since our cars are getting old
maybe: take the front bumper off, inspect front radiators, clean em' our cars love to get collect debris there, like leaf's, rocks. etc. you cant really see everything until you take the front bumper off
as far sparkplugs i went with ngks and oem plugs
inspect: outter and inner boots, also check the engine filter I went with aftermarket one. no problems.
I always order my parts from pelikanparts... happy with shipping and prices

it is. there are two things a relatively new owner should do, absent a full provenance on the car. they are:
establish a baseline that is YOURS, not what someone told you they are pretty sure got done etc.
change all fluids and follow the 90k service recommendations incl a trans oil flush "delvac' or if stock redline 90 is terrific. motor mount and even the trans mount at that age depending upon the cars life conditions, could well be in need of changing and are in fact age sensitive replacement parts.
beyond that incl plugs/coils and the 60/90 MAJOR svc items, don't buy parts you don't yet "know" that you need, unless they are things like motor mounts that DO wear out. the car lets you know when things go south. you'll hear/feel it lol.
good luck and establish that baseline!
Also, anyone have the coolant reservoir part #? I've been searching for the last hour but can't find it.
No problem its rear main seal, cheap and easy when doing clutch. Good call on cooling reservoir and do fuel filter while at it=easy to replace more room with res out. ECS has good/easy set up for parts with numbers.

Do you think it's a good idea to upgrade to the 5bar fuel pressure regulator too?
no!!! do not use the 5 bar. your not dropping the trans so no on the rear main seal. torque solutions motor mounts are a good way to go. give me a call anytime and lest chat about what you want done
You can do the fittings without pulling/dropping motor? If I was going to all that trouble I would at least check the clutch and personally would replace with 65k miles unless I knew when last replaced.

its possible to "pin" the fittings without dropping the motor. its difficult but can be done. since its more of a refresh than a full engine out the list he has will be fairly small
