Can't Stand Them
I can't stand all these post about all the cars that are taking down 996 turbo's. The Vettes, the BMW, The Gaylardos, The F-cars. Our turbo's have been out since the end of the year 2000. That means they were developed in 98 and 99. You finally caught up to a stock turbo from 6 years ago. WOW, nice going, now get lost.
well, one thing is the Turbo can be easily and cheaply modified to take those other's down with some basic tweaks.
Of course, then it isn't "stock to stock" as they say, and reliability on the modded Porsches can't compete to stock F/L/Ms/etc ... oh wait a sec ....

Good luck trying to restore the balance with the vette. It is probably faster, less expensive to mod and run, and you can buy 2 for what your turbo is likely to cost, so that kind of shoots the reliability question. I seriously think Porsche is in some trouble at the upper end of their range. Styling and fit and finish only go so far, certainly not nearly $100k.

The first ones were sold here in Europe in January 2000 (I think that in Germany there were a few 12/1999)...

With all due respect (honest) theres no contest and in Europe people don't even use Corvette and Porsche in the same sentence since these cars don't play on the same league in terms of build quality and design hence the price. I'd go a step further and say that over here the buyer of a Porsche is DEFINATELY not the same as the 'Vette since buying a Porsche is associated with a classy lifestyle and a 'Vette is generally considered "tacky" and people who drive them are labelled as having a doubious taste to say the least...
I apologise to anyone who feels offended by my remarks that was never my intention but the provide a general view over both cars on this side of the pond...

The new generation of Z06 may change some EU thinking about the new Corvettes.
Although there is a certain level of anti-Americanism that a great car at a great price won't overcome.
And let's face it, labels matter.

kiko I'm offended.
Come over here and say that
Seriously........if it's all just about 'bang for the buck'......(more horsepower / great 0-60 times.......for a lower price)......well, they can't make Vet cheap enough for me to spring for one.....at least, not in this life.
But to each his own.
Hope I didn't offend anyone.

In terms of cars? I don't think so they're all over the place, at least the ones who can cope with our narrow roads and the price of fuel ($1,5 per quart) just look at my sig I got a Jeep myself!!!
Now...in terms of politcs...
thats another story but its changing...

I'm tired of defending it with the "well, when you have to go through twisties" or "turning", but that being said, it is almost 6 year old technology.
I also agree w/ Tim that the build quality can only go so far. I hope the 997 TT doesn't just equal the Z06 or others, but SMASHES them. Who knows though.
My guess, it will still have to take a few "twisties" to beat it even though the Z06 can turn w/ the best of them too.

Well, the Mk2 GT2 is as fast as a C6Z and faster than both the Gallardo and the F430. Not bad for a 5-year-old car.
P.S.: Regarding anti-Americanism, it´s not the cars, it´s your politics we don´t like in general. And the fact that the C6Z will cost 100k Euros here

well, I was born in Europe, but grew up un the US.
i love both sides of the ocean, each for difference reasons. I deal with foreigners all the time- they HATE american policies(especially BUSH). I don't blame them.
BIG BROTHER sticks his nose in everything.
As far as the original post... I think its getting out of hand as well, the vette and lambo ... not to mention BMW posts are getting to me as well.
I have two very fast cars.... I was thinking to video tape some pulls... and start a controversy how my EVO8 kicked my stage 5 TTs ***. But then i thought that I would be like the rest of of the porsche haters... in appearance and or in fact.
no harm intended.

I hate American cars, their quality and looks are the biggest turn offs for me. On the other hand I like American pickup trucks, probley because no one else makes anything comparible. I love Ferrari and Lamborghini, but the Ferrari vs Lamborghini nonsense is old. I love Porsche to, and I seriously do believe the Porsche Turbo 996 is now dated and not anything to get exited over, however it is still a benchmark for most performance stats. Can't wait to see what the 997TT brings us. People just don't know what they want, im not going to name any names. But what ever they have in their garage currently makes them put anything else they don't have.

The 996tt is still the best car to easily mod ............... then where is the comparison.
