New guy with a 996 - Intro

Hi Guys, I wanted to introduce myself and say Hi. I just got my first Porsche and very excited. Long time gear head and car lover.

My new toy is an 04 996 TT. It has a Europipe exhaust,Bilstein pss9 suspension, Fikse custom polished racing wheels, Porsche short shift kit, racing pedals, k24/18g hybrid turbos, Softronic tuning, billet diverters, 1 bar wastegates, Misha GT2 style rear decklid. The prior owner told me it makes around 630 hp.

Definitely a sweet car and so fun to drive. Look forward to becoming part of the community and and knowledge exchange on the cars.

A few pics

Thanks guys. I'm in Kansas City MO. Definitely a fun car. Has anyone driven a stock 996 and then swapped to the K24/18 turbos and could tell me the difference in how they drive and behave? This is the only Porsche I've ever driven so very curious how its changed since stock.

The car came from CA where they only have 91 so I'll see about contacting the Softronic guys and see if I can purchase a copy of the tune for 93 which we have here at some stations.

Dutch86 yes I'd love to meet up with you guys. I know there's a local Porsche club and gatherings. I need to find out more.

My rear tires are mostly smooth. I have Michelin PS2 on there now (315/30/18). Do you guys recommend the same or is there something better? It seems to be the highest rated tire I can find on tirerack.com for that size. It's back ordered till 4/24 unfortunately but my local NTB has located a couple of them in Texas he can have shipped to me by mid/late next week.

Oh another quick question. Do our headlights have a plastic cover/film on them? Mine does. It looks like a prior owner had one of those clear bras on the car and removed it but left the part on the headlight. I wanted to ask first before I take a heat gun and attempt to soften them and remove incase I ruin the headlights

I've probably got the same turbos on my car as you, like you I'd never driven a stock one. I recently rode in a stock turbo car with a tune and my car on w/g boost of just under 1BAR the difference was night and day and pretty apparent to the other driver It's a noticeable difference to say the least and more boost will really wake it up!

Congratulations, and welcome to the group.

That's one sweet ride.

Drive it in good health, and keep the shiny side up!

Welcome! Why do you want to remove the film? It was installed aftermarket to protect your lens from debris and pitting. My assumption is that it will also prevent the hazing that age causes to these headlights, in fact, I just installed a set on my car recently-- Enjoy! KH

My headlights are aged looking. I was going to do a headlight restoration with the fine sand paper and mothers polishing ball etc. and then realized there was a film on them. Closer inspection it appears that plastic layer is what's faded and aged. If nothing else I could install another new plastic protective layer on once I get this one off.
So sounds like you just confirmed this is just a layer on there I can peel off.
