Auto Insurance 996TT

Who insures your Turbo?

I was with Geico for years, no issues really but rising rates and stupid commercials made me change. I save a lot by switching to State Farm and having them insure my home too. I have 4 vehicles, a new Subaru, Lexus RX400 Hybrid, 996 Turbo and a Boxster.

It's just my wife and I that drive, no accident or citation history, great credit, all cars garaged so I think I should be entitled to very good rates. State Farm upped my policy rates about a whopping 30% when my renewal comes up next week. I called them and they agreed they had increases and offered no solutions so I went with Esurance for 3 cars but they won't insure the Turbo.

I only drive it about 3K miles a year or less, but State Farm and Geico want more to insure it singly than the total for my other 3 cars. Any recommendations for a single policy for the Turbo?

I use Leland West...PCA Sponsor and advertizer...

2002 Turbo less than 3000 miles per year...33,000 miles, garaged, declared value $55,000 paying $875 full coverage...it started about $750 and have gone up every year, for four years.

They almost always raise rates after the first year switch to us rate. I have Geico and they have not raised my rates considerably in years. I have a friend that switches every year and saves= to much trouble for me. There was recently a post about this on Rennlist.

I have USAA. No limits on mileage. $150/month. Expensive but if I get an accident I get what I pay for.

Ck986 is infamous around these parts
I have Geico and pay between 6-700 p/annum (less than 5k miles). I dont keep it with my homeowners as it gives the insurance company too much leverage.

I used to have Geico. When I got my 996tt Gieco said they would insure up to $5k in mods. As soon as I listed off engine tuning and turbos, they said they would not insure a vehicle with engine modifications.

So I dropped them completely and went with USAA. They covered $10,000 in mods but recently changed it to $5,000. After my wife's vehicle was totaled (person blasted through a red light and T-boned her) and getting the run around in valuation from USAA, I dropped them and am now with American Collectors. They have mileage and other restrictions, but it fit fine with how I use it. The agreed upon value is much better (due to our low KBB valuation) and the rates are a bit cheaper.

I stopped even considering GEICO when I found out they were giving out radar guns to municipalities. I'm with State Farm now but from the sounds of it I may be paying more than my peers so I'll be checking it out when I receive my next bill. Car isn't a daily for sure lol

Im with these guys http://www.ncminsurance.com/collector-car-insurance IIRC its around $550/yr. I've got 6k miles per year, drive to work up to 2 times a week, has to have registered garage, and not really any other stipulations. Considering I don't daily it anyway that works for me. They also insure my other weekend toy. (which is also not a vette) They'll insure any vehicle "of collectible or special nature". All 911's fall into that category.

This sounds like what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Over the years, I've only used USAA or Amica.

Not a fan of Geico, I called them a couple of years ago to compare rates, customer service was a bit to be desired, plus they could not include a large umbrella policy, I have with USAA / Amica. I know at least on west coast, they supply free radar and laser guns to the police.

I added the 996 turbo to my Travelers policy which I had my 2006 A4 on and it added about $700/yr. to my policy, driving less than 3,000 miles/yr. Both cars have a $1,000 deductible.

I never knew GEICO donated radar and laser guns to police, that's ridiculous and quite upsetting.
