Lotus Esprit vs 996TT In Malibu

Well I was bored and decided to take the Esprit out to the Pch for a little drive. Along the way i ran into a Vanquish, and in a little 2-3 rd gear run the Esprit pulled on him HARD. Coming back down the PCH i ran into a silver 996TT which was definitely louder than stock popping and backfiring, and I also noticed he had some sort of wing that looked like a GT2 wing, but attached to the stock wing mounting points I think. We did a little cat and mouse driving and had 2 opportunities to run side by side, and each time the Esprit pulled him. The guy did have a passanger (hot blonde) and i was alone. Nice car though. Along the way home, I noticed what i thought was a new Z06 so i banged a u-turn hoping to find out how fast they really are, but he dissapeared. Not really a big deal for most, but for me great fun, as this sort of stuff was not happening on Maui!

I now you have done mods, but what exactly are you putting down? Sounds like a really fun car. Have you touched the suspension or brakes?

The lotus has a race ecu, blow off valves, full exhaust, air filters and boost controller. Unfortunately we found out the turbos are soo small you cant really turn the boost up. Last night the car ran really well, also likely due to the fact it was pretty cold, and the Esprit is non intercooled.

Can you change out the turbos and add IC? With the low weight and chassis that still stacks up well with newer cars, would be great to put down 450-550rwhp.

I've driven a Lotus V8 Turbo with modifiy ECU & full exhaust, I never felt it was that fast (faster than a 996TT with exhaust)???

The car is vey fast for what it is. I raced my friends Murcielago with exhaust in a quick 50-100mph run and the Esprit pulled him also, and i had a 200lb passanger. Also, the exact weight of my car is 2836lbs with a 1/4 tank of gas. On a 100 degree day in Maui, with no cool down period the car made 370rwhp with 370lbs torque. From what ive seen, stock TT's make about 350rwhp, and weigh what? 3400lbs? Also, when my car was dynoed, it had 100 miles on it, im asuming it is getting more broken in and making more power.

I think last night, because of the cold air, it definitely made more than 370rwhp. it felt unlike it has ever felt before.

Thats the one thing i don't miss from modded turbocharged cars... how it feels more/less powerful from day to day, weather, if the ecu decides to pull timing/boost etc...

esprit v8 is one sexy car though!

Just figure out the power to weight ratio.

Hey Allan owning the esprit, how often can you redline it when you launch it? Because I read that you have to be very soft on your shifts from 1st to 2nd bacause the gearbox is extremely delicate and very easy to break. Not to meantion if you break the transmission on an Esprit you cannot buy a new one,

Who told you that you can not buy a new one? It is a renault box.. They are plentiful, and with a modded one with bigger out put shaft and and closer ratios from gt40.couk you can put 600+ hp through them..
