So I found this under my console... WTF is it?
Hey 6speeders,
Just to give a little background. I just recently purchased a 2002 turbo coupe and was installing a new console, double din navigation and moving the thermostat and the heated seat/window buttons. I found that the two window buttons that were in the batwing dash piece do not have a function. I have two other windows buttons that operate my windows. But upon removing the shelf and the useless cd holder dims I found this...
This random board is connected to the two window buttons and upon pushing the buttons a red light flashes on the the board, BUT nothing happens...
Any thoughts?? Sorry for the poor quality photo and there was nothing but a patent number on the back which I have googled a few different ways and couldn't find anything. Any help would be appreciated! I asked the previous owner and he said that he didn't know either.
Thanks
-Scott

When I bought the car there was a total for 6 buttons being used (where as my previous turbo had only 4). Currently there are 4 window buttons and 2 heated seat buttons almost like a convertible would have... BUT its a coupe sooo wtf??? hahaha
From front of the car to back the buttons go like this.
Batwing has 2 window buttons
Behind the shifter (again towards the rear of the car) is 2 headed seat buttons
Closer to the keylock for the elbow glove box is my actual window buttons
So this is why I wanted to move them. My last turbo has the heated seats in the batwing (which I have put back now) and moved my actual window buttons up to the middle location behind the shifter.
hahaha hopefully that better explains some things. Sorry.

That is my guess too. You can see the 3 contact buttons on top. The middle one looks like it has a LED just above.

I disagree, auto destruct Is my guess, be careful of wire cutting sequence, you don't want to activate it.
It's definitely the previous owner's garage door opener modification. Basically you take an old garage door opener and re-route the switch to the dash. Tuck the garage door opener away somewhere it can't be seen and viola! You have yourself a homelink system in the 996tt!
the oem placement of the heated seat buttons is on the vertical bin, the larger oblong circle in your pic. the oem placement of the window button would've been the two in "front" of the "ash tray" ( ash tray! lol ).
the rearrangement is the po's ( someones ) maximizing the available "buttons" to suit their needs for opening the batcave as was noted simply a homelink or possibly it activates alfreds pager.
following the wiring? but still nothing visible answers why they didn't leave them in the original oem placement and simply add whatever is activated by what now presumably are the "window" buttons behind the ashtray? so, it's an odd choice of placement, at the very least.

I added Homelink in a much cleaner, easier way to my 996 C4S. I bought an auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink and installed it place of my OE mirror. It worked perfectly.
