996TT Engine pulling experience
Axles move freely and only need to be pushed out of the way. No pry bar needed. Axles need 340 ft/lbs of torque to reinstall. Better left in. Exhaust much easier to remove when heat shields aren't in the way. Remove air box intake piping stays attached disconnect them off the turbos. drops out with the motor. Don't why you want to remove the deck lid it's not in the way at all just more work but your choice. as for the a/c you have to have it connected to charge it. so rather than let what you have escape to the atmosphere leave it attached and reinstall it when your ready to charge it.
If you say the intake can stay I'll give it a try. If you pull your engine anytime soon would be awesome to get pics on that. I still don't know how but if you say it'll work I believe you!
Keep in mind this was first pull from a 911 ever. I just went for it since I'd pulled plenty of engines from the front of cars and didn't want to pay someone else.
I'm hoping to never do this again though
Thanks for the info. If I ever have to pull it again I'll see if I can figure out how to keep the axles out of the way. For sure the ac and ps since it wouldn't need a charge again.

Yea I'm pretty sure you are right. Oh well, I've got the table now to make it easy. Maybe next time I can try the time saving tips
get a lift. it will save your back your time and your sanity. i use the max jax and its the main reason i still have the car
Wow thats a short lift. I'm going to go check that out. Didnt know little ones existed. As you might have noticed the ceiling in my garage isnt tall enough for a normal lift else I'd have purchased one long ago (well before I got the 996)
I like it !!! Got the same equipment but less space ;-( Love the Maxjax and also got a 1000 pounds hydraulic table...Very useful....
I had my garage ceiling lifted 8ft to fit a full sized lift and am considering a second one lol. I'd have gone wider if the county would have let me! Max jack is perfect if you cannot go higher, when I retire I'll spec an "RV Garage"
With the two post lift system (maxjax) how does the weight transfer workout when you finally separate the engine/trans from the car. Does it not become nose heavy with the fuel tank and want to tip forward?
no car is solid on the lift.
agreed, gets my vote for sticky.
