safe rpm limit on stock valve train?

safe rpm limit on stock valve train?

I see some are going to 7200+ shifting at 6500 is getting lame. What's the safe limit?

Play it safe and keep it at 7k max.

i revved to 7500 no problems. i revved to 8000 on stock cams and had collapsed lifter after a while. my car was a 2001 had the version 1 lifters tho. there are 3 total revisions. i think the latest ones are much less prone to failure.

I agree with 7200, although, I was conservative and set it to 7000 on my AEM. Can maybe get more like Prodigy but then you'd be pushing the limits. 8,000 is way pushing the limits but fun. I would also question why you would need to rev as high. I am assuming that you have big turbos and need to stay within full boost on the gear change

when looking at stock torque curves, it looks like an upside down U and the HP doesn't rise anymore with more rpms after 7k.
Even if you could rev past 7000 the torque falls so fast is it worth it?

that all depends on your gearing and turbos and what you want do. i did it because it didnt want to have to shift 5th during the 1/4 mile and the car was still making a ton of power up there. yes it was on the decline but there was still plenty to keep it moving

I run 7250 for a few years already, hitting 7400-7500 sometimes due to inertia

I'm strictly referring to a stock motor cams and turbo...
I was actually very surprised at how low the rev limiter was when i bought the car until I looked at some stock dynos.

Im totally stock besides a tune and exhaust. But there is no power loss at 6500. Plus hitting the limiter in 6th Sucks. It can only hit 187mph

Todd at Promotive has mine set at 7,500 rpm .
I was concerned and he assured me no problems with valve train.
I am glad I have that rev limit for my 1st to 2nd power shift due to the large drop in RPMs between the gear ratio spread.

And your motor and valvetrain is stock?

Wrapping over redline produces no extra boost or power with a stock set up.
