996tt maintenance costs
It would helpful if you can post the following info:
1) What year 996tt do you own? 6MT or tiptronic?
2003, 6MT
2) When did you purchase the car, purchase price, and mileage? Current mileage?
Purchased June 2012, $39,000, 49,000 miles, now with 76,000 miles
3) Any mods?
Came with 1 bar tune and MTM pipe. Added Dension 500 aux input Good service history from previous owner.
4) How much did you spend per year for maintenance and repairs? What was done?
First year, new accumulator, oil, baseline service (Fluids, etc) About $500.00 max. All work done by myself, since, about $200.00 for parts. Free Labor. Bought a Durametric Pro though. Have not had any failure to any systems. Its been a very reliable car.
5) If you had to do it over, would you buy it again?
Absolutely. Will probably keep this car and purchase a 997TT and make the 996TT a track car.

I thought this thread may be helpful for those who are considering purchasing a 996tt to get an idea of expected maintenance costs/repairs.

2) 2009 (June) with just 10K miles. Paid $57.7K not including taxes/license/etc, but including a 2 year, 100K mile CPO warranty (which was heavily used while it was in effect). Current mileage is 137157 or a tad more.
3) Stock.
4) Lots. Ignoring consumables: oil, tires, plugs and recently the front brakes; there was: The power steering tank (~$1K) to quiet a high pitched whistle; head light switch ($?); spoiler ($2K); RMS ($1700); new water pump, radiator fan motor (this the 2nd time, the first although the other side replaced under warranty), front diff axle flange seals, a new set of serpentine drive idler/tensioner rollers (this being the 2nd set; the 1st set replaced under warranty) (~$3K); 3 radiators ($4K); rear view mirror ($400).
5) If I knew then what I know now I would not have bought the Turbo. I thought it would be a better car than my Boxster in terms of things *not* needing attention and it has been far worse in this regard even considering it has covered less than half the miles the Boxster has covered (137K vs. 294K). The only car requiring more attention for things going wrong was my sh!tbox '96 Ford Mustang GT. That thing spent more time in the shop than in my garage during its first 36K miles. And based on my experience with that car I swore off Fords forever.
So no more Porsche Turbos for me and no more AWD cars for me. My next Porsche, if there is one, will likely be a newer GT3, or a newer base C2.
That's quite the unfortunate experience there Mac, and scares me a bit in getting a turbo, esp since yours is CPO and doesn't sound like it was modded. Maintenance seems hit or miss; question is how to get a "hit."
2002 tip with 28,000 miles
Bought last year.
Now has 32,800 miles.
Only aftermarket is ecu flash.
So far in a year
Oil change $150
New starter switch $18.
Most reliable (knock on wood) car I have owned.
Other than fuel car has cost me a whopping $168 bucks this year.
I do have a cracked windshield that eventually needs to be replaced, and I'd like to do some carbon fiber interior pieces. I'm not a gear head other than oil changes, brakes, and minor electrical so mods aren't my thing. I'm keeping it stock.
I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Find a car that is maintained and has less than more mileage. You will be glad you did. Higher milage cars require replacing key components that are due for replacement. That being said you can find many nice well maintained high mileage cars but the key is documentation of work and a thorough PPI from someone who is savvy on these cars without a sellers connection.

2004 996 Turbo (5/05 delivery) purchased 5/12 as CPO vehicle from a dealer.
$56,000. 27,841 miles at purchase. Just under 97,000 now. Driven year round.
Included Champion 19" forged wheels, otherwise stock.
I have spent just over $30,000 on modifications and repairs.
Modifications since purchase include an AWE flash, Speedtech exhaust and Sachs 2.5 clutch kit, plus a set of winter wheels and tires.
Actual maint./repair cost has been under $10,000, not including tires/wheels.
Major service items have been the coolant pipe repair, power steering reservoir update TSB, and replacement of all 3 front radiators.

I noticed you have a 91 NSX. I've been debating between the two. How do you like the NSX? How is it maintenance/reliability? If you had to choose between the 996tt or NSX which would you go with?
I would do it again. The cost may seem on the high side, but I drove it almost 70,000 miles since 2012. If I had kept it stock and the miles down, it would have been around $6,000, and that is with $250 oil changes at the dealer every 5-6k.
I have owned NSXs since 2003. Absolutely love them. They are so much lower than a 911 and the intake is just behind your left ear, so it is much different experience just to drive around.
My GT3 feels like the NSX with another 100 hp. The powerband and gearing are very similar and the GT3 corners a lot more tightly than the Turbo does with stock suspension. You can feel the extra weight of the Turbo and the rear tracks around a corner just a bit behind the front. The GT3 feels more like a mid-engine.
If I could only have one, it would be the Turbo. It does everything. The steering feel is quite good, not as sharp as the GT3, but still very rewarding and visceral. It is a supercar you can drive every day, year round.
I used to put 10-12,000 miles a year on my NSX. Since I bought the Turbo that has gone down to around 4-5,000. With the GT3, even less.

2001 996TT purchased from a private party on 05/2015
$41,000. 39,xxx miles at purchase. Driven about 1k miles since
Car bone stock at time of purchase. Since then, FVD Bilstein coilovers with associated parts, SSR GT3 wheels and 997 shifter.
I have spent about $5,000 on modifications and repairs.
Most of all of my maintenance has been standard (oil changes) and preventative. I recently did a new coolant tank, fuel filter, N75, and TB gasket.
No major service
