Incremental Sound System Upgrade Error

Ritchie's post about upgrading his speakers and my response has got me to thinking this Board may have some insight to share with me.

Current Situation; I upgraded my stock speakers when I put in the '01 era Porsche Nav Head Unit into my 2001 TT. I am actually quite happy with the Nav, I don't use it too often and when I do it has been good enough. But I am unhappy with the speakers. When I installed them I specifically declined an amplifier and sub-woofer as I didn't want to take up the space and wieght. I must add the installer recommended these but I insisted...

Now I am tired of not being able to drive the speakers to their full output potential and also tired of the bass sounding very, very, muddy.

The question for the group: is there a "minimalist" approach that would be small and not take up too much room? I would like to keep the stock head unit because as I say I am satisfied with it. So I need an Amp and a Sub. Any thoughts?

P.S. on my earlier car I had the system installed by XXXXX with an Eclipse Head Unit and humongous (that's a word isn't it?) Sub. It was great...except that I am sorry to say it was overkill for my tastes. So something a little more demure?

Garey,

You really need to take a look at Reus. You won't be disappointed. The added weight is minimal.

Garey,

I had many years in the car audio business, especially highline, so I can definitely help. The factory preamp level is relatively low
but you can still add an amplifier to the unit.

What I sold a ton of 996 owners and it worked out wonderfully was:
A/D/S/ 346is front 3-way seperates that will fit in the stock locations. @$800/pr
A/D/S/ 4" coax in the rear stock locations. @$300/pr
If you can get the factory Bose sub, I highly recommend it. $??
Use this speaker setup with a JL 500/5 5 channel amplifier and the system will kick A$$ @$900
You can high pass the fronts around 80hz, the rears at about
130-150 hz and low pass the sub around 70 - 80hz

The power output is 125w x 2 to the front, 25w x 2 to the rear
and wiring the sub in a parallel configuration will net 250w to the sub. If you want to finish it right, install an Alpine or good brand
head unit with a 4volt preamp and sub level control...and your done!!

Best , Pete

You should be able to add a sub and hide it where the spare tire is or as suggested, get the factory bose sub setup in the back. But since I'm familiar w/ your car, I'm not sure you'd have the clearance with your racing roll cage. I'll have my audio guy from Tweeter get in touch with you. By the way, the guys from Reus do amazing work. I have a client that has a very nice custom setup in his 996TT.

Moe, Chad; it was Reus that put the system into my previous P-Car and it was great no question. I just didn't want to go the "whole hog" route this time around and I thought I could get away with just a speaker upgrade and be happy...not happening. Really I think all I need are the sub and Amp. I know the head unit isn't any great shakes but it's OEM and keeps the look, I suppose I could think of a change there...hmm..don't know.

Moe thanks for the referral. For those that don't know Moe Mistry is a first class Detail Technician who has taken car of my care for some time. He also supports our local PCA group as a car enthusiast. I recommend him to SoCal P-Car dudes and dudette's.

$2000 plus the sub, head unit and install ($4000?). What's the bill to have Reus fly out plus parts and install?
