Tial alpha 2871 compressor failure (pics)
Had a failure of one compressor wheel on my A3076 after only a few thousand miles, the dealer said I will not be covered by any warranty.
The problem was the main shaft had a lot of play and the comp wheel was touching the comp cover.
got Markski's new version of ski850 turbos and never got any other problem

TiALs eval came back as overspin (not their fault). Was sotta expecting this from what I've read / heard. Just trying to get a price set and time frame for repairing both turbos.
You mean they won't admit they could have done something wrong? Good thing you have choices...Make a better one...
Yes, directly followed by "installation error" and "no oil on initial start". The turbo manufacturers could as well put a sticker on the box: no warranty.
I'm giving TiAL the benefit of the doubt here. A backfire could throw out a crazy amount of pressure that could cause an overspin. I did hear a loud pop when all this went down but the car has never backfired in the past. Things happen...but if this **** happens again after less then 1k installed miles on a highway car, I'll make sure everyone knows about it. Car is at Auto Strausse in Costa Mesa, CA but they're overloaded with work. Finding out the engine condition is taking way too long for me.

One of my tial gt3076 turbos blew a couple of weeks ago, for no reason what so ever. I purchased of todd from Protomotive and he immediately mentioned overspin, boost leak etc, but i literally dismantled the whole assembly and found nothing. I was convinced it was a faulty turbo. I documented everything to Tial with tens of photos showing that nothing was setup incorrectly, and i was also data logging at the time so could show the engine was performing correctly and that i hadn't over boosted etc. The turbo has sufficent oil, coolant feed, and only had 200-250 miles on the turbo and at the time it blew it was running low boost, low rpm.
Not only did tial warranty the turbo, they sent a rebuilt unit out overnight so i could make a motorsport event.
So in just 1 week i was back up and running.
Although i was very disappointing with the blow, and the whole extra time it caused and hassle, they stood by their products and went beyond what most manufacturers would, so i wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
Some pics of the blow, the whole CHRA assembly blew, fragments all up the intake, as far as the intercoolers etc, but nothing worked its way further, and the oil filter and oil seamed fine also.
I have a good 100 miles on the rebuilt turbo and so far so good

So you were able to box them in a corner to disprove their initial failure analysis and get a warranty but the same failure elsewhere diagnosed not their fault? Interesting, to me, that they diagnosed over speed but then backed down when smacked with facts. Seems to me their failure analysis needs work and is clearly not always accurate! This makes my future turbo buying decisions much easier by having eliminated a manufacturer - thanks!
They said they couldn't prove for certain so based on that the turbo would be covered.it was todd from proto who was trying to defend them but they were pretty neutral and non bias.i wouldnt hesitate to use their parts again

Agreed! Any vendor that does not stand behind their products does not deserve to be in business.
IF any of you are needing a Garret/Tial turbo rebuilt Call Limit Engineering(listed on garrets website performance distributor) noone can beat their prices and they are factory Garret Direct Distributor. 350$ each turbo if you dont need new wheels 3 day turn around was nice too.

Good luck man!!
