RUF front bumper

So I recently had my car repainted and had the body shop install my genuine RUF front bumper kit. The instructions that came with the bumper were adequate for everything except the center ducting. The center ducting came with no help other than a small picture and a vague reference to mounting. Thankfully Pwdrhound and my buddy were more than willing to help. pwdr sent me some photos so I could see how his was mounted (his was installed by RUF USA) and my buddy came to my aid and helped me today during the hot humid VA summer weather. Needless to say we finally, after many hours of trimming and test fitting, got everything to fit and got the bumper reinstalled. The following pics were what we took along the way to help anyone else out who may get the RUF bumper.

Great pics/info. I contacted Ruf a couple weeks ago for pricing/delivery details. Did you order direct from them? How long from when you placed the order until you received it?

Did you have to make any other changes to tubing or anything else at all? I'm really interested in this bumper.

Looks great!

Glad it worked out for you and I could be of some help. All the water hoses and brackets on my car are GT2 part numbers. The lower flat panel (bumper under tray) that is visible in our picture is actually attached to the RUF bumper cover itself on my car. When you remove the bumper, you remove it as one piece with the flat tray.

pwdrhound, I was under the impression that this bumper was meant to fit the 996t without mods to the car and still be functional (including the top vent)? Do you have to switch to the gt2 parts to have it work right?

Thanks!

Ha! Removing that bottom tray instead of having to try and find the screw holes would've made this MUCH easier! The Lowe's angle aluminum was a stroke of genius thank you very much! Stock radiator had a small piece of aluminum on the front that we swapped for the larger piece, worked well. Man it was hot as hell and humid beyond relief there at the end!

I was shocked at the amount of material that had to be trimmed from the top of the duct. Removing the screen to be able to reach in there made it much easier to tell where we were. End of the day this was an impressive piece, I like it better than the glass nose on mine. Having it made from urethane is really nice, I miss some of the other aftermarket pieces were made like this.

As for GT2 parts, the bumper came with all the ductwork you need including the top duct. Instructions weren't great however. You wouldn't have to buy a bunch of ductwork but you won't swap this right onto a stock front end, you have to swap the ductwork.

the upper bolts that go hold the radiator at the top how long are they and whats the size? can't get any info from the pics on the autoatlanta site

Aw man, wish you had asked us before we pulled the bumper They were pretty long with a spacer on them and are covered by the crash bar as is the mount we made for the top of the duct.

The angle aluminum to hold the top duct was longer on one leg, we riveted the longer side to the duct and then used three screws through the radiator edge to hold the shorter angled piece after drilling it.

That's a question for Irish, the bolt went through the spacer and into something is about all I can tell you. It was flush on the spacer when tight. Not very helpful I'm afraid

That looks really good!

I thought I read something saying RUF doesn't make this bumper anymore. I guess I was mistaken....................it's happened before.

The instructions are posted at the top. There is no mention of how long the spacers are at all. I'm sure the bumper will be coming off again soon enough and when it does I can definitely check them.

I got the bumper directly from RUF. If you have it shipped to a residence it might be easier. I had mine shipped to a business and then it was a bunch of jumping through hoops to get setup as an importer and some other stuff. The time from order to receipt of the bumper was about 2 weeks or so. Other than cutting the duct there wasn't too much in the way of mods other than making the center radiator the same as the GT2 setup. it comes with all the hoses and the directions for that part are ok but don't mention the part that you have to flip the radiator upside down, but all in all it comes with everything you need. Just be prepared for the tow hook hole to possibly not line up, and for needing to trim quite a bit from the duct to get it fit the bumper.

Looking back I wish I would've left it that way because it would have been easier, but its done now. lol. you actually were a huge help. after perusing through the pictures you sent me and looking at the GT2 setup I figured it all out. The angle stock was definitely genius and it works fantastic now. You are an invaluable asset and I can't wait to hit you up for suspension bits to get the handling as good as the looks.

I had to bend the center radiator bracket forward about 20-25 degrees. It equated to a couple inches if memory serves. it was enough to fit the rear ducting in and that's it.
