Here is a probabaly even dumper idea but has anyone run an 18 front and 19 rear? Many cars now days come with 1 inch larger rears so I don't see a big problem with it. Then I could get the diameter and wide wises and tire selection I'd like
265/35/18 front
305/30/19 rear

The overall size of the rear is 1 inch larger keeping that large contact patch like the 305/35/18 but with larger tire selection. Front I can keep the 265 for turn in and with the 25.3 diameter I won't have to mod the front much to prevent rubbing.

With those sizes I can get Hankook rs-3s for track use which I have been fond of in the past and for the price you can afford to be hard on them. Then lots of selections for normal steel tires as well
I would have no issues running an 18/19 set up, actually considered it myself if tire choice drove me to it. My suspension is set up around a 1" taller rear. The 26.3-5" rears are a win win compared to the short 315/30s. Better load rating, better gearing, larger contact patch, better grip.

Well car has coils so height adjust is easy. I think the 996 needs to be a little higher in the rear anyway. It always looks like to front is a little high.
I just can't believe that a 26.3 tire will fit fine but a 26.7 325/30/19 wont. I know it's a huge tire though. Ya a 18/19 setup for tire selection is looking way better

Just my 2cents, but the optimal fitment for a 19" rear is 315x25x19. Unfortunately no one makes this size anymore except Nitto (pray a lot). Since I'm at GT2 ride height doesn't look like sticking with 19" is an option. I may have to drop back down to 18".

Ya tires are just way to limited for that size.
Im going to put the car on the left next weekend (get here monday) and do some measuring. I found another guys running 325/30/19 rears and I think it's possible but at what cost. Lots of measuring.

When did this happen!?

To OP - Your idea of going staggered diameters is an interesting one.

saw them on TR for that price. probably a closeout, but just after ( by a week ) i paid the usual 347 per. naturally

though i will say ( and it could be a coincidence though i rarely believe in them ) the last set of p zero rears with the RED logo looked great, and the newest ones i got although ( as rob correctly points out ) say they are made in germany. but given pirelli is now owned by a chinese company ( as if we aren't? ) they look certainly cheaper ( e.g. the lettering looks like something highly pronounced and "raised" ) and would look great on my old camaro, if the lettering were white but it's not.

so..weird looking p zeros going on a cpl days. meanwhile I'm enjoying drifting on my treadbare old ones

Choose your tires before and check if available into your sizes.

I will run MPSC2 probably in 19" for DD
245/35/19 and either 305 or 325/30/19, these are gt / gt2rs oem sizes
Will use 8.5(no 9"available) 53ET and 12"/51ET wheels,exactly GT2/GT3RS 997.2 offsets.
Guess for 325s will need new liners and a lot of tricks and work, having a taller tire would be nice for sure.

For best laps will try some slicks on OEM 18" wheels 9/11" and might sell my actual OZs

I run now MPSC2 225/295 R18 and have sufficient grip, will add some suspension upgrades soon and run more aggressive setup, used to run also 235/40/18 and 315/30/18 R888 - not going to use them again, good only for a few heat cycles, but good when new

tried some PS2 in 996gt2 size 235/315 R18 - hmmmm what I can say I put them just before the narrower MPSC2 and the difference was night and day... cornering, braking, etc

I guess 255 or 265 in front would be nice but not very easy to fit and drive for every day..

I will hunt for the 245/325(305) setup and will see from there, the gt2rs seems planted with those, the slicks will be xxx/645-18 most probably

Ya I think I may end up with 245/305 combo. Still going to do some measuring yet but 325 might just be to much of a pita to fit. Might pick up a second set of 18s with 265 front 335 rear just for the track.
I have some 275/35/19 which are the same height as the 325s on my vr4 I was going to set in the wheel well and see how it looks.
