Chip a new ECU?

Can I buy a used ECU, chip it and use it interchangably with the original ECU?

Any software conflicts with the tip control unit?

The logic is that it's easier to part out when selling.

You need a few things to do that... Also there's the immobilizer chip. Easiest thing to do is just go with a "flash" and then just "reflash" it back to stock. Takes 10 minutes each way

Thanks Sharky, glad I asked.
It worked nicely on my S4 but I thought the 911 might be trickier.

Sharkey,

Does that mean those of us in California will still be able to pass a smog test, by just flipping back to stock?- and once the smog test is done, flip back to performance mode? Is this something that can be done at the home garage or does it need to be done at a tuning center?

Thanks for the clarification.

Absolutely! You can switch between stock and performance or 100 octane maps with a switcher yourself. Also stage II's pass smog in performance mode. As a matter of fact, I found out recently that the GT640 does too

How much extra does the switch mechanism to change programs cost on top of the software?

What do you mean by 1x, 2x, or 3x? Are you saying you can pay one fee for 1 flashing session, or plan in advance and buy a package of 3 seperate flashings for use in the future, etc?

Also, I too would like to know how much it costs for a programmable switcher to keep in the car..one of the handhelds.

Thanks.

Rogue, no I mean there are different options.

A single "performance" file is $2000. If you do the 2X (includes performance and stock) then that's an additional $200. There is also a "race gas" file which is an additional $500. The hand held is $150.

Thanks!
