Guns are almost nonexistent in my country and you are required to have a permit to own a gun. Criminals very seldom have them and even when they do, they usually only use them among themselves (different criminal organizations - happens once every five years). We had a shooting this year in which an innocent bystander was injured, but in general things are very safe around here, so I support a gun ban, which allows for permits (just too many idiots, who are allowed to carry guns IMO). That´s why I think my country, for all its problems, is the GREATEST

(Oh, and yes, I have a gun permit )
If you can own a gun with a permit, then guns aren't banned. A gun ban is a situation wherein only cops and military can carry them, and the result is often an erosion of citizens' rights.

What country are you in, anyway?

I have always had a varry permit since I lived in Fla however most of the time unless I am going past Palm Beacg County or driving late night I dont carry it however as of late I reconsidered post Hurricane Wilma things were a little hairy around here...I am a NY guy so I am always aware at stop light leave room in front of you and try to always be aware of who and what is around you when driving...dont be aloof gabbing on the phone with the window down and get caught off guard and as well lock your doors in bad areas...good luck

Yes, I can carry my pistol in many places. Car, on me, public places not seen as a public gathering, supermarket, gas stations, etc...

There are restrictions of course, gov't buildings, bars, places where alcohol is served, schools, etc, but the main places where something "bad" can happen allow me to carry.

The state of Illinois does not allow for a carry permit to any private citizens.

Eric, glad to read that you're okay. BTW it's okay to admit being scared. If you weren't, you wouldn't have pulled off, and if you were pissed, you would have run them off the road. If someone is behaving suspiciously toward you and you aren't scared, then you're either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid- it's a crazy world, brotha.

Regarding carrying a weapon, if you can legally do so and have no objections to doing so, then do so. Driving around cars that cost more than many peoples' homes leaves lots of people with lots of temptations. I've had two circumstances where I could legally have shot someone- both times I was able to talk the guy down (one case with weapon drawn in sight, other case weapon drawn but perp unable to see it). Both times I was scared ****less and in retrospect I'm glad that in both cases I didn't kill someone.

My carry weapon? Full-size Glock .45 or Sig Sauer .357Sig in car storage area, mid-size of same on self, and Kel-Tec .380 in pocket. For long road trips, there is also a loaded 12ga and AR-15 in vehicle. Stinger missle at date TBD if we keep electing republicans.
seriously i wasnt until i thought about it, i just pulled off, trust me i have no problems admitting my fears and weaknessees, it has made me a stronger man. thanks,

I have been in 1 spot where I could have shot a man it was the worst feeling of my life I hated it i stopped carring about a year later.

I can't imagine the frame of mind a person must be in to feel they need to carry a gun. This is not directed to anyone here who has said they carry one, but that does not seem like somewhere I want to be. If you live somewhere so dangerous that you need to carry a gun, I would say you need to move. Otherwise, a little common sense will keep you out of trouble. In the scenario described in the first post, just mind your own business and keep driving. If the other car actually did something to give you the impression that you were in danger, just hit the gas and lose them. In the extremely tiny chance that you are the victim of a random violent attack, well, that's just life. I mean really, you are 100 times more likely to get killed in a car accident driving to work. Again this is not directed to anyone in particular, but it seems to me like most people carry a gun because they think it's cool, or it makes them feel tough, or something along those lines.

I too hate the whole "i need to carry" thing. When do you really need it?
I've lived in the projects in Dallas, Tender Loin of San Fransico, Even North Philadelphia.
I'm always milling around some shady areas..Hunters Point, East LA, Up town NY, etc, I've never ran into a situation where I would need a gun.

They want my car....Take it. Even if i had a gun i wouldn't shoot them. Big deal... thats what insurance is for. Guns are horrible. The less the better.
IMHO.

So...
Would you shoot the guy as he's walking up?
Or would you wait untill he's screaming at you and tell him to "hold on...I'm going to pull my gun"
Or would you just show him the gun for him to have more reason to shoot you?

Most people "need" guns like people need a 911 turbo or a 360 Modena. However, it is a right that we have to legally own both. Everyone has their own reasons for doing so. What gives you the right to make a judgment on that what we legally own?

I was the son of a judge for 20+ years at one time. My background and the things that have happened to me (attempts) is enough to make a best seller on the top 10 list. I also live in one of the top 10 most dangerous cities in America. We all have our reasons... Please keep that in mind; in an open mind at that.

Once again: Some people will lay down and let criminals win and others will fight back. I won't judge those that lay down. However, if someone wants to legally fight back, you should not judge their decision to do so, either. That is their right just like it is your right to "give" your car to the criminals.

You just have to wonder about the wisdom of putting yourself in situations where you feel you need a gun. I've never felt I needed one.

But then again I don't live in one of the most dangerous cities in the country. I don't drive around the hood. I don't screw people over. I don't hang out with criminals or people who assocate with criminals. etc. etc. etc. Why would you want to do any of those things?

I say you have control over 99% of it. The other 1% you don't have control over, well like I said that's just life and the risks you take when doing anything. Statistically you are more likely to be shot by your own family member, not some thug on the street.

Your "some people will lay down" comment says a lot ...
