I love my Tilton, We saw what they have done in other platforms. Why use something with no track record on such a high end car.

m_motorsport is infamous around these partsm_motorsport is infamous around these parts
I originally went for spec + 3 clutch, and bedded in in for 500 miles, after a few hard launches the clutch wouldnt disengage at about 6500rpm and i could feel some resistance when pushing the pedal down, and then suddenly the resistance went, but the car stalled and would not start. It turns out both of the guide tube screws had come loose and seized up the whole assembly. I decided to go with the ERP kit and although it was a nightmear to fit the end result is great. Fitment i couldnt get my transmission back in fully, we had to machine the bell housing to get it to fit it seams the ring gear was slightly bigger than stock it measured slightly over stock size. I have put about 500 miles on the clutch and so far it has been great. Although 500 miles isnt much, those 500 have been hard harsh driving, full throttle, and at least 25-30 of those miles were drag runs from 0-200+ on 15 x 1.5 mile drag runs. As stated i found the fitment annoying and getting every aligned and all parts staying put was a pain. I also found it odd that they didnt include a clutch alignment tool for a $4k kit. I had the stock alignment tool left over from the spec clutch, the plastic one, but it would have been good to have had a longer metal type alignment tool for the sake of a few quid.

Seems like there's not a bunch of people stepping up to Bat for ERP as there are for Tilton. I've yet to here a negative thing regarding Titton. I wish I would've known this before I chose Clutches and gone through such a headache.

my original ERP was flawless in the 996TT, then i received an update that had issues which they fixed for me. my sachs 2.5 started slipping and i just put an ERP in my 997tt. i got a brand new redesigned one with 9 fingers on the floaters and new finish on the hub to prevent sticking. my car drives just fine, shifts fast, goes into gear and any rpm and my wife drives it. send it back to Rob and have him machine you all new parts.

1/4 mile 996 ET record set using a ERP triple disk. standing 1 mile watercooled Porsche record set on a ERP triple disk.

not sure why all the sudden Tilton is the "only way to go", having options is better than not having options.

i recently did 4.9 60-130 on a slipping sachs 2.5 and have since gone 4.7 60-130 after replacing the clutch. stock motor.

How many revisions have been there? I know of three separate people that ran it and had to take it off to send in for update then take it off again.
I don't own a shop so it's $$$ every time.
If I order the erp triple with new revision what's to say another month from now it won't need another?

danny i hate to hear your having such issues. i know the erp hasn't been the most reliable since it came on the scene but it has held big power for more than a few folks. i initially heard of the tilton but it was super expensive about 6000$. it wasn't until sean came on the scene that i found the tilton as a cost effective alternative. for me i already had the erp from layinbacks car so its what i will run. i had a carbonetics prior and it worked well but likely wouldn't hold the power I'm hoping for. I'm not much help here but if i can help in any way feel free to hollar

There is only one reason anyone has anything in their car other than a Tilton and that is price. And i agree they are ****in expensive but they work. And after a few years of racing and beating it up i sent it to Tilton for new linings and a complete check and rebuild .Cost 900 bucks with shipping .End your troubles and get a Tilton.

i think the issue for danny is that he wasn't aware this was an option and already has a 4000$ erp to then spend another 3000+$ isn't were he wants to be. having to rebuild the tranny will be another cost as well

For my 997 at this time I could have went with a tilton regardless of cost. I drove my car 8000 miles last year and tilton will need to be reshimed after driving on street like that maybe more than once. It also makes significantly more noise, only car I have heard seen run with it is TopGuns. It's just a nature of the beast.

Mark, I appreciate your honest input. I'll speak to Collin tomorrow about it and send it back to Rob, after all I'm not going to the track every week. I'm just frustrated but hopefully he figures it out.

Weird Matt's 997TT has never has been shimmed and he drives it plenty, hell even Mrs. Swole Powell drives it too. You can hear it in the car slightly but not enough to bother anyone.

You can hear it in the 996TT though for sure, but honestly everything in a 996 is loud

Tilton's triple carbon clutch is still $6k+.

Tilton makes a metallic clutch also, and the twin disc is $2500.

On their main page for describing clutches, they mention that the metallic is not recommended for street use, but they don't go into why?

I nearly went with tilton but the UK distributor put me off with stating that the clutch will need re shimming, he said it wasnt just a plug in and leave clutch and that i would expect to have the clutch out a few times over a number of miles. He also said that the clutch doesnt do "go to the shops" very well and that it can glaze or something. But if i ever got problems with my ERP i would have no other choice but to use tilton as apart from the ERP there isnt much else that is good for high hp
