Well, Sean over at SRM has taken the engine out and apart and no damage.

Now since we got the thing apart, I'm going for 1k.

Look at my sig for current loadout. Any suggestions on internals to get this beast built?

I'm working with Sam again on this build

Nice talking with you again Sean. Like I said I didn't expect to find damage but I'm glad we didn't. Now we can go to town and just move your engine build up by about a year like you mentioned LOL. Idea is to build a sweet 3.8l with 12 mm studs, cams and all the tricks. go through everything. With Pro EFI I want to get you the most horsepower in any circumstance and fuel conditions including our crap here in Cali. The flex fuel is going to be the ticket for you. Sean is going to get silly while he's in there and work his magic. He's really earned my confidence on his motor builds! I will provide pictures and information as we go. Sean is ripping into it right now.

Cheers Steve. However, I cannot confirm nor deny the use of a 5bar fuel pressure regulator in this motor build without the written consent of the secretary.

this will be a zero fpr build! with seats new fuel system you can start making paperweights out of all those 5 bar fpr your hoarding!

sean i don't see anything in your sig but obviously your going to need clutch axles and some trans work to be able to make the most out of the engine build. prodigy went for a couple yrs on the stock trans so if your gentle you might get some life out of it. if you drive it like sean@ srm drives his i give it 4 months before you break it! how do you want to run the filters? he runs them right off the turbo but lives in the desert. i see a lot of rain so I'm trying to find a way to help with spray and still get air in.

Just run some pre-filters Steve. They repel water. I just ordered mine earlier this week...should be here soon. Are you actually going to be driving it a lot in the rain though? I'm just adding them more as a precaution. I was glad I was able to put my upper intercooler ducting back in.

Good luck on the build SSHRUM!!! Should be FUN!

its not uncommon to leave the house in TN. and 2 hrs later enter a driving rainstorm with heavy water on the road. my concern is of course hydrolock and socks will be mandatory. I'm also going to fab a sheetmetal shield to keep as much tire spray as possible away from the filter but rain in TN is inevitable

Has there been any cases of hydrolock with filters right off the turbo? I used to run a filter right where on of my oil coolers was on my old RX-7 (right by the front lip) and never had any issues with water intake though the steep vertical to the throttle body might have helped a bit.

honestly i dont know. sean says run them and stop worrying but i would hate to be the first documented case after a fresh 3.8 build!

Play it safe and run the filters above your intercoolers........

Dirt above the intercooler well behind the wheel well liner? You must have a different setup then I do. Mine barely see anything but clean air.

Hey Wealth - If you don't have the top intercooler ducting in....the filter gets DIRTY as hell. Mine where surprisingly filthy after only ~1K miles of driving.

it was behind the i/c . i don't like blocking the top of the i/c with a filter and disturb the airflow. theres a large space behind the wheel liner and behind the i/c itself. but lots of dirt collects back there. also have to remove the entire i/c setup to remove the filter to clean. not an optimal setup
