Whats the going rate for CNC head porting?

For whatever reason I cannot find any prices to have my heads ported, for all the GM engines I build, everybody puts their prices up all over the internet. Not sure what's up with that but just wondering if anybody knows current rates to have all six and take an exhaust runners CNC ported?

Well thats better the the hand porting quote I got for $2500. I've always sent heads out to TEA with with the LS motors I build. Usually runs me about $1400 a pair. These are tiny little heads and should be at least the same cost. Haha

Guess I will hand port them myself. I have a spare head ill mess with and flow bench it.

Thanks.

It's not the biggest deal, not sure I want to even spend the cash right now, it all was based in pricing. A little cleanup is free, im still deciding on that trans thing and if I should just freshen my trans or put gt2 gearing in, or go TipTronic. Will cost $2k to freshen my box with syncros and guide sleeves, or $4500 for new everything including 1-3 gt2 gearing.

Idk

Do you guys have ported heads?

pwdrhound had mckenzie do a complete overhaul and upgrade of his heads north of 5k$ i would say. mine are ported and polished they were done before i got the car so i don't have any #'s on them.sean will give them a once over and se what if anything needs to be done to them. tim941nyc does a nice job on his builds runs about 2k$ extra .

If you've seen pictures of the GT3 head ports vs the turbo you can see the turbo heads got much less attention, they appear to have relied on boost. As I recall the turbo ports were rough and looked less finished - noticeably. Somewhere here there are pictures. IMO it's cheap power if you've already got the car that far apart. I'd love to see Sean develop a CNC program for our heads!

This url might help, it's got pictures of cup heads and gt3 I believe

http://rennlist.com/forums/996-gt2-g...4-liter-6.html

He quotes $2250 per head 4 years ago, I wonder what they go for now? Are 997.1 heads much different? Just wondering if finding a set of heads vs working on a stock set might make sense? Seems like the heads might be a good place to unlock some power, cams from any of the other motors worth considering? Hrm!

McKenzie is probably the best guy in the business for Porsche heads. He ported my heads including the intake manifolds. Most guys skip these but they must be done also for max efficiency. You can see how much meat was taken out on the intake manifolds that mate up to the heads. McKenzie also installed his 9000 rpm valve train. If I recall, it was under $4k out the door. Flow results are pretty impressive and can be seen in the two columns on the far right below:

When I called Todd at Proto a couple of years ago he told me to contact McKenzie for heads as they sent of a lot of their work to him. McKenzie told me the same thing. Don't know if that's still the case at the moment but that's what I was told by both parties then.
