Picked up a set of used OZ racing wheels off a GT2 with Nitto NT01 235/40/18 and 315/30/18, rear tires are about 30% to 40% worn and the front about 10% worn.
My 1st question is are these sizes OK with my AWD.
2nd question these are noisier than an old truck, extremely noisy at any speed. Is this normal or is it possible its rubbing on the inside guard liners or something else?
depends on the "noise" jim...is it a RUB?? if so it could be a rear fender roll needed since you're 12 is wide if NOT w rolled fenders.
but the TIRE sizes are fine if the wheel sizes are oem gt2 8.5" 40 OS X 12" 45 OS. are those the wheel sizes?
( we have the same wheels now buddy lol. now just two tone the car lol
now you just "need" argento grey calipers like I'm getting
but back to your question? yeah, it's totally possible you're getting some rear tire rub and yes, ok for the front diff awd. but the tread depths need to be fairly
closely "matched" or you can get abs/psm errors.
Sorry to copy & paste, its the only way I can answer after a couple of drinks ..(hiccup) on Christmas eve. Yes we are one day ahead of you guys.

I spoke to previous owner, this is what he said. Yes they are noisy. all semi slicks are. Much more aggressive, upside is a LOT more grip. also with a bit of use they get a bit of rubber deposits across the tyre width which throws the balance out. Fine when you speed on track. Suggest you use on track and when finished, replace with road tires.

I ran those sizes in both PS2s (came with the GT2 turbo twist wheels and replaced due to poor handling/ age) and PZeros and took them off again as as they played havoc with my acceleration and handling at speed. When I put the stock sizes back on a again I was shocked at how much better the handling was; and that was before I fitted the PSS9/10s which were another jump in handling performance. I never had any clearance problems with the GT2 setup but I tried the 245s up front in attempt to solve the AWD issues, these caused the wheels to bind on full lock reversing and made contact when traversing heavy road dips.

Yes we do, do you get a feeling I'm stalking you...not, seriously not but appreciate your input.

Just guessing but maybe back tires worn much more than fronts which might play havoc with front drive. But man that noise is incredibly loud.
hey buddy! happy xmas! just wanted to say that while it is still legal!
im drinkin too but whats a guy to do? i lived this long, i deserve it
i cant comment ( hah! for once! ) on mcbits experiential anecdotal but he sure knows his stuff. but oh wth i'll try:... but if i am reading YOUR version of his claim? its that he was using gt2 SIZES on stock twists and that played havoc with his handling? something is missing from that equation but it's not coming from him ( now anyway ).. so let's set that one aside.. as i never had an issue, but those are a bit stretched. but i know 315/30 fits a twist without any wheel issue, any issue is going to be the fender liner particularly if the car is at all lowered.
but i myself have used exclusively either michi's or pirellis on both of my tt's and in varying size 18/19 and lowered/stock; a bunch of differing setups.. but I've never had any issue except with 19's ( rubbing etc and @ hard lock turns ) and 18's when i ran hanc*cks for a couple weeks ( yes i scrubbed em before i recycled em LOL ) which i'l spare you from hearing about ( again
ao i can't imagine what the issue you're having is. i suspect it's the difference for you in the tires themselves? ( as you';d surely "know" if there was a definitive "RUB" noise, so i'm chalking it up to that and egg nog
cheers my friend! stay safe and watch out for far eastern man 'o wars! a comin' to your shores lol
Jimbo if ur still running the ride heights i sent u those 315s will rub if ur guards arent rolled, its why my ps2 315s are still in the cupboard.
I have fiddled with my heights since then and rear is a bit higher.
They're unbearably loud from about 20kmh driving in a straight line, I think these tires are toast.
Just checked clearances and found that the lower section rear liner is very close to the tire, there is only about 2 or 3mm clearance on both wheel arches. I pushed through a 2 to 3mm piece of cardboard to check clearance, its reasonably tight but it does push through.

Jim,
Those tire should not be too loud. Louder than a full street tire but nothing alarming. You need to remove the liner and bend the attachment brackets back so that they will pull the liner nice and tight against the IC hose. Just reach in there and push on the liner and you will see there is room behind it. Over time the TT brackets get bent out and create clearance issues. You will have to remove the brackets to bend them. Bend them more than you should so that they actually lay against the IC hose with some force. When you bold the liner on, it will pull it away slightly. Better yet, just install the GT2 brackets which create even more room. The liners are the same part, TT or GT2. Adding a 5mm spacer in the rear also helps making the offset ET40. You should not get any rubbing whatsoever if you do this especially when using the short 315/30 tire. I run rears that are 1.2" larger in diameter at a much lower ride height and have no issues whatsoever.
john.. would you ( could you? ) offer up the part # of the gt2 "bracket". i am terrible with identifying the parts on those auto atlanta diagrams I've found... if you're saying the actual fender/wheel "liner" is the same? i was misinformed and thought there was a "turbo" liner and a "gt2" liner. i need whatever might give ME a few mm's of added clearance in the REAR section where the tire meets the liner!
i dont know what jim needs! but more clearance also seems like it would be a good start!

I've posted this numerous times over the years. Lol. They should make this a sticky. Yes, the TT and GT2 liner is the same exact physical part out of the same mold. The only difference is that unlike the TT version, the "GT2" version has a hole drilled in the side of it for the bolt to go thought. If you can drill a hole in a TT liner, you can make a GT2 liner. The factory actually just puts a GT2 part number sticker over the TT part number that is molded into the liner.

Thanks John.
Previous owner who I know through a circle of friends said tires only did 3 x 20min track sessions but I have driven with him and he is quite an aggressive driver. So either they're toast or maybe like you said they are rubbing but they are seriously unbearably LOUD !!
I will try this "remove the liner and bend the attachment brackets back"
Glad others are benefiting from my thread and your help.
Thanks John.

These tires will be loud if you have a lot of rubber pebbles stuck to them that they have accumulated from their previous sessions at the track. Once this wears off with some street driving, they quiet down. This may be contributing to the noise level also but from the pictures they look pretty smooth... Once you wear them down to this, they get very quiet..

Yes he did mention the build up but good to know from your advise they'll eventually wear off with street use. All parts shops are now closed for the holidays, I'll pull the rears off tomorrow and try to bend these brackets.
Edit;I was hoping to have these up & running for Sunday drive through the hills with buddies. I was just concerned the front diff was protesting and feared it could damage it but by the sound of it its just the tires rubbing and or pebble build up which seems to be easily rectified.
Wow that tire looks sooo SMOOTH, I can imagine them being pretty quiet. Looking forward to the lack of NOISE...
