Dustless Brakepads - Anyone Got'em installed?

mike @a.w.e. emailed me about a month ago telling me that they finally have mintex pads for both front and rears.

i am about to order them from his website....

but before i do, i wanted to see if any of my fellow 6speeders have had any experience with them....

please post your thoughts!

I have both (front and back) of them sitting in my garage, but I haven't installed them yet. I am not sure if they are "dustless", but I do know that they are supposed to have less dust than the stockers. Either way, you can't beat the deal for street pads. Mintex makes a good pad.

I have them up front. They perform as well as stock for agressive street and highway driving. I suppose you could call them dustless when compared to stock (it is a night and day difference). I highly recommend them for a street pad.

When I sold my M3 to my friend, it needed new brakes so I told him to put the Mintex pads on and I have to say, they really ARE dustless. I mean, after 3 weeks of driving, his wheels still looked CLEAN! With the stock pads, after 3 weeks of driving, the wheels were FILTHY!

Whatever you do on that 993 C2S do NOT use the Mintex ones. We had a nice Blue C2S 993 a couple of weeks back with crazy squeeky Mintex brake pads. I'll ask James which ones we got him instead to cure his hearing!

PS Go to bed and come to the drag strip tomorrow!

It's a DIY. The process isn't that hard at all. The only "hard" step is compressing the calipers. Some use a wrench, others use a C-clamp.

I did a quick check on renntech.org and found this for the 996 Carrera. The calipers seem to be red, so I would imagine that they are the Big Reds that come on the turbos (perhaps this is from a C4S?).

Either way, this should give you a good idea of what to look for:

Let me know if you cannot get to this site. You need to register in order to view. It would be a good idea to do so.

Dude of course I did! After feeling all giddy about finding the vacuum hose had sheered off from the waste gate on the passenger side and not having to pull plugs I HAD to go test her. She ran like a champ and I must have done like 10 passes? I love boost.

James was inside the shop and said "That thing is effing loud. I can hear you dammit".
