Street tires

Need new tires for my 2004 996tt.Don't track the car, street/highway driven...spirited at times. Any input as to what to and what not to buy would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what sizes you need, but the Michelin Pilot Super Sports are the best all around tires I have ever used. BTW I have used a lot.

Later, Steve

PSS are a great tire but they dont come in 996TT rear size if you're running AWD.

factory 996tt sizes are 225/40-18 and 295/30-18.
Pirelli Pzero Rosso, Bridgestone Potenza S-02A, and Michelin Pilot PS2 are factory Porsche N-Spec tires and available

Fronts should be a bit taller than rears, this combo wont work with AWD.

Follow Robs advise above.

Went recently with a set of Sumitumo HTR Z-3 due to my experience with them on BMW's. Could not justify the price increase to a pretty badly reviewed S-02A, and would have bought PSS in a nano-second if they were available. PS2's are HARD to find, and expensive as hell when you do find them (and last for 5,000 miles in the rear).

AD08R are available in stock sizing, and this would be my choice if I was expecting ANY track time at all. I would also pick them up before I spent the money on S-02A OR P-zero rosso as they are far superior in the grip department.

You guys are missing out on a great option from Bridgestone if you're only looking at the S-02. That model tire has long been superseded.

Check out the S-04 Pole Position. It's gotten incredible reviews all around. Some would argue that it's directly comparable to the Michelin PSS's, with some advantages over that.

We are only looking at the S-02 because that is the only tire they make in 996tt sizing....

Hell, the RE-71R is an amazing tire, but it doesnt matter if they dont make a 295/30/18.

I can't argue with that. Though these run wide and perhaps you may find that a 285 is physically equivalent in width to the stock 295s?

For those that have different or aftermarket wheels, I've really enjoyed my S-04's. Running 245/35/19 and 305/30/19s. I found my 305 in S-04s to be physically wider than my previous 315 Michelin PS2's.

Most 19" guys are running 26" tall setup, because it helps with traction and ground clearance. It also helps reduce the stock fender gap, if your car isn't lowered.

Some of the 18" guys could follow this same trend, which would allow you to run the Pilow Super Sport.

Below are some possible combinations.

Rear
295/35R18 = 26.1" dia.
285/35R18 = 25.9" dia.

Front
235/45R18 = 26.3" dia.
225/45R18 = 25.9" dia.

Just a thought.

Most 19" guys are running 26" tall tires because the selection is better for rubber. Try and find 295/25/19 tires. Nada.
