Congrats EstorilM!
WTF. 6speed, this guy is about to buy a 01 and all you can say is "the 02 is better"????
Who gives a **** about a glovebox?
And 2nd gear pop is sorted with partnumber 90010806400
It costs 1 dollar, and takes one hour to fix if you are really slow.
Heres the difference strenghtwise

As you can see the crossmember is bolted with additional two bolts to the chassis.
But, spend your time reading up on these cars, there are some problems with these that you need to be aware of.
Clutch slave , water reservoir, check if 2nd gear pop happens when you test drive it, get under the car, remove panels and have a look after leaks.

All 996 TT's except the Tips can potentially develop the 2nd gear pop-out. I researched this heavily during the 10 or so months I searched for the perfect, to me 996 TT.
It's generally caused by speed shifting, or shifting too quickly for the way the syncros and shift dogs are designed. If you are trans savy and know how transmissions shift and can picture mechanically what goes on inside when you clutch in, move the lever, clutch out, you can sense and feel, and time your movements according and never ever have a problem. If you like to play boy racer and bang gears indiscriminately you will certainly damage your trans and the first symptom is the dreaded pop into neutral most noticed when the car is under load decelerating in second gear.
No pop out is a great sign that the trans has not been abused.

Also, I am in need of advice on the following:
I would absolutely get a PPI done if this was an independent or private seller. The fact that it has been serviced at this dealer for 7 years and they will be servicing it early next week makes me wonder if I can trust them to let me know what it may need....
Congrats and good luck.
Nothing wrong with a 2001, if you can live without the glove box and hollow turbo wheels, then everything else is pretty much the same. There might be some frame stiffness changes but that's still debatable.
It is WAY more important to find a clean and well taken care of 996tt then to focus on a 2002+.
The gear pop out plagues all 996tt, not only the 2001.

Sounds like a solid deal to me. I bought my '01 almost 6 years ago and it has been a solid car with no serious issues. It does not have the 2nd gear pop out issue either. Enjoy but be warned, if the car is stock the mod bug will eventually bite you!
OP, the pic you posted looks like it's the Porsche dealership in the Eastside. Looks like it has not yet made it to the website as I type this post. If $43k is indeed the asking price and you're able to get it for that price, IMHO it's a good deal considering 996tt values are on the rise and that this dealership usually prices its used cars on the higher end of the market. Not many local 996tts for sale here locally.
Just make sure to get a good PPI...
Good luck with the sales process, and keep us updated!
