Put a deposit down yesterday on a 2001 996tt. Porsche dealer in my area just got one in. 3 owner, 49k miles. Seal grey, 6 speed, sunroof, non nav. Paint and wheels looked good. Had 3M front end/mirror protection. Was serviced at this Porsche dealer for the last 7 years. It isn't technically for sale yet, so I dont know every detail. It has some sort of aftermarket exhaust, but everything else I can see looks stock. They will be servicing it this weekend and getting it detailed.

Sounds like they are asking 43k. Seems to be a fair price for the mileage...What do you guys think?

Update: Pics of the car

Fair price, but be aware the '01 models had several differences to the '02 onward (like no glove box, not-as-stiff frame, etc.. Search box is your friend...

I still havent seen any actual data about stiffness differences. 43k is actually pretty good given that most prices are high 40s to low 50s now for sub 50k cars.

Yeah, I have tried to do as much research as possible in the last day or two. I have always been interested in them, but had my heart set on an e92 (mostly because they are way easier to find). I had done enough to know about lack of IMS issues, etc.

I noticed it didn't have a glove box and had the manual holder under the wheel. Actually think that is kind of cool. I like the old school weird stuff.

Good to know! It isn't officially for sale yet, but they said 43 when I put the deposit down, so hopefully it doesn't change.

The doors have fairly big storage compartment plus locking armrest so not a big deal, IMHO.

Great to see the values coming up on these cars finally, even better to see buyers stepping up. They are a wonderful auto and IMHO worth much more than what they have been selling for the last several years.

Go down a steep hill in second gear and let off around 3k rpm or below without your hand on the stick it will pop out. I have been in two 2001 they all popped out.

Most people leave there hand on the shifter. Not all but most have the popout and it sucks. I'm lucky that i dont.

Some including my late date build 2001 have the extra frame supports. 2001 was not the only year with 2nd gear pop out issues not to say it wasn't more prevalent - mine doesn't have this issue thankfully. I looked specifically for a 2001 because I really like the no glove box look and a couple other oddities like cassette radio etc but to each their own. Very odd they would take a deposit on a car that wasn't for sale, hope it works out.

That's some funny stuff there. Seriously....2 and they "all" have the issue?

OP, not true at all. I have an 01 with now around 52K on it and haven't had any issues. Obviously buying used is a gamble but these "all the x models have y" statements kill me.

Good luck with the car, sounds almost exactly like the car I bought last year, I paid just a little more for mine shipped to my door so that price seems to be inline, given the car doesn't have any real issues. My .02

Great price and the best color imo too.

I have an 01 6-spd, no second gear pop out. Have fun and enjoy the car!

It will be for sale. I think I just showed up the day it was traded in. It still hasn't gone through the shop or detailed.

It prob was technically for sale, just not on the website yet
