Impressions-new mounts
Hi guys,
I have been so impressed by the replacement/upgrade of the engine and transmission mount, I had to share my thoughts.
First off, I went for the torque solutions engine mount, which are semi solid- similar to the NYPPD, Wevo or RSS mounts.
The engine mounts themselves were not too bad. They had not cracked, just sagged a little but otherwise in good condition.
The transmission mount was another story. I knew it was on the way out and had been 'patching it up' but when I finally removed it from the car, it was totally shot. The rubber mounting points had split, disintegrated and were mostly missing. That is the mount was not supporting the trans, merely just holding it in the approximate position.
I installed a stock mount that I had filled with a two part polysulfide aviation sealant with a durametric rating of 50.
IMPRESSSIONS- It feels like I have upgraded my suspension. No more clunks/rattles, just a direct feeling and connection to the road. The car never felt planted or secure but now it feels stiffer and more communicative in the back end. With the Pirelli corsas I have fitted, the rear end feels 100% better.
Noise has increased minutely at idle but after a couple of days , I cant even tell anymore. I am amazed at how tying down the large lump of a weight mass that is the engine and trans has made a difference!
BTW-I have attached photos of the shot trans mount.
So, for anyone considering these upgrades, do not hesitate. The eng mounts were $400 and the trans mount $300(in Australia). The install of the eng mounts is very easy, took about an hour. The trans mount a little harder, if you do not have a lift and took me about 2hrs.
Now I can finally get around to fitting my Tech Art suspension...it never ends!!!

those 3 items VASTLY improved my car(s) "tautness" and eliminated ALL the lateral "slop" and would also recommend to ANYone hasn't done 'em. mine are the wevo semi's just the oem 997 t-mount. did same to both cars and had same results each time.
enjoy it. like a new car, handling wise.

Did you install both bushings all at once? I'm curious if you drove the car after the torque solutions engine mount, and then the trans mounts. I currently have torque solutions engine mount and I love them. I'm curious how much more noise and vibration the trans bushing give off and how much they change the driving characteristics of the car.

wait? for what.

Hey xmaciek82 x,
I installed the torque solutions engine mounts and a week later the trans mount. I noticed a very small increase in noise with the engine mounts, mostly exhaust noise,( I have a speedtech x pipe)but barely noticeable after a couple of days.
The trans mount is a stock mount, with the voids in the rubber filled with sealant/polyurethane. I did not notice any difference in Nvh levels when I changed this.
So overall, a small increase in noise, but no reason to regret what I did. To the contrary, I wish I did it a couple of years ago when I bought the car.
Driving dynamics however are vastly improved. That nervousness in the rear end is gone, the connection to the road is a lot better. Weight transfer in corners is a lot more progressive and easier to judge. I am a lot more confident in the car.
I had it on a track in Melbourne a few weeks ago and couldn't wait to get off. The handling was sloppy, the weight transfer unpredictable and I felt like I was constantly fighting the car. I kept blaming the soft suspension, even with the row m030 that I have, so I went and bought techart coilovers for it. Had I known the mounts would sort things out , I would not have bought the suspension. Then I could have tried the car on the track and made a decision from there. The improvement is that good...

i'm wondering if this is similar to the t-mount "window weld" mod which ( iirc?? ) simulates the torque solution t-mount poly inserts with obviously far less muss/fuss. the new 997 mount, well i'm not even sure how and where the "improvement" would become recognizably evident over the simple replacement to the newer part which i've done.. i guess i'd have to either do it ( window weld ) or the TS inserts. i think i'd prefer those somehow...
re the row mo30 set, i love it but have only compared to other setups as a "borrower" and not an "owner". but they seem to suit me fine. though i do need new dampers at *some* point.

Thanks louisifis. Exactly what I was hoping to hear. Many people stated the significant increase in NVH level after the engine mounts only, I can't say I noticed any. I have full tubi exhaust with headers so any additional increase to the cabin noise was hard to notice.
I'm really leaning toward getting the torque solutions street inserts, 75A durometer.

i think the difference in the 996/997 mounts are the 996 has windows in the poly bushing which is typically what cracks and breaks apart and the 997 is a full poly mount with no windows

my old 996 mount by the time i looked at it was crumbled bits, basically metal on metal with the remaining rubber bits crumbling out with each day

Good stuff. This is my next project.
I'm definitely going with the 997 t mount but I'm still sort of on the fence regarding which motor mounts to go with... I'm thinking about doing the 964rs motor mounts.I want minimal to no added nvh, maybe I'm playing it too safe? Going to do some more research

I don't wrench these cars daily, so I def do not know what is out there, but I have never seen an OEM 996 / 7 transmission mount without some voids.

had you considered the tarret or other semi solid trans mount inserts since you removed the trans carrier mount completely? tarret has two grades for race & street-sport as does rss. or am I misunderstanding and you installed the 997 mount. it seems you installed a new 996 mount and then filled it with an epoxy??
interested in selling the old tranny carrier mount? I wanna start a pay it forward thing with bushing replacement.
