Have you boost solenoid plugged in is important. I would suggest retuning the car with it plugged in.
You will want to reread my post again, it was even capitalized

Unplugged electrically you put full pressure to the waste gates but the DME knows the solenoid isn't there. When it knows it's there it will try and fail to lower boost to target is what I'm thinking since the W/G is jacked. When this happens it becomes unhappy? Target needs to be higher than W/G spring but not overly so.

To me it sounds like a bit of a redneck tune for more boost. Crank the W/G up and prevent the DME from being able to do anything about it. No idea what the fuel get would look like! IMO get a Durametric on it and get some logs to someone to look at. Markski has seen this **** a ton and could help you undo it. You really want the ecu to have some control and the W/G to be set lower, this isn't the way to have the car tuned IMO and this from a guy who ran no N75 for years after burning up an EBC. I only ran .9bar for ages on k24 turbo, can't wait to run them where they should be!

Oh and good point on the X50, I didn't think 2001 had that either, might want to run VIN and get the option sheet. Snap some pics of the turbos too and let's see how far this rabbit hole goes?

Most 3 point solenoids are normally closed that I use for stuff so that's what I was figuring it was. Normally open then it would be that way.

Just the other day I had my n75 out and blew into the inlet and air came out the side that would go to the wastegates, so it's definitely fail open.
OP, this is not an ideal set up and does sound like a "redneck" modification. I would do what's been said and work with a reputable tuner to sort this out.

The HKS solenoid I had was the same way, and a good thing too as the PO had wired it in such a way that it shorted and blew out the driver in the EBC. After two head units I gave up and ran spring boost through the deactivated solenoid, I only recently removed that and found the N75 completely missing. Failing open is a smart move and means the solenoid isn't clicking all the time - been there done that on my Supra lol

A concern I have here is that the LOWEST boost he can run is 1.2bar because the waste gates have been turned up to that. Base boost is normally set lower and then the solenoid bleeds off signal to RAISE boost. Right now a bad tank of gas could potentially be a bad day I fear. Can't stress enough that a Durametric and working with a tuner that will do remote tuning is important, probably find more power too!

P.S. Another concern - weather! 1.2bar in Summer heat will potentially be way more in Fall chill. Without electronic control and gates turned up high you're at the mercy of temp changes.

X50 was on 2002+ 996 Turbos. About 94% sure about that.
