work around for 3rd brake light led

A friend of mine has a gt with a 3rd brake light out, he is not interested in hooking it back up and wants me to hookup a small led to trick the ecm to believe the light is functioning. I think I could do this and use a resistor possibly with the led so it tricks the computer to shut the light on the dash off?

I know the proper thing to do is repair the brake light, but he just wants a fix to remove the light on the dash.

Any opinions of how I could do that for him, I got to the connector and checked the light its for sure not working its dead, and it gets 12v when you hit the brakes.

Just completed work around
no dash light
no resistors

Pretty simple fix
let me know if anybody needs instructions. Most people would want to replace the light,

How often do you think people drive with the light on vs actually change the brake light, to me it is unreal that an led brake light that costs so much $$$ fails.

I have exactly the same problem and would welcome the instructions to turn off dash lights.

Hi Nairb999.

If you get totally stuck, there is a great Indy in Crewe called Ivor, not too far from Liverpool.
If you Google Bentley independents in Crewe you should find him.
There is nothing he doesn't know about our cars and I've used him a few times.

Les.

Thanks ExSF. I have used Ivor myself. Price is over £500. So I was interested in the work around. Will be keeping hold of the car for a while yet - it is a superb specimen with only 40000 miles on the clock. As the car does not need the 3rd I was holding off replacing it as it is a common fault and could easily fail again before I change it.

In the 2006 GT had the typical third brake light manufacturer defect and the Boston Bentley dealership replaced it. The new light worked fine for the few more years i had her until trading the car in for something else.
