Road Noise???

Hey guys, well as you know i just picked up my 996tt and im LOVING IT... But one thing i really noticed at speeds cruising over 65mph+ on highway or so, the car gets so loud, it's like a humming and wondered if porsches usually have alot of road noise.

Or could it be the new pzero tires on the car or row suspension? It honestly gets annoyingly loud after a while, thanks guys

Martin

It's going to be hard to diagnose your complaint b/c tires and pavement you are on make a big difference. I have the Pirelli's but didn't notice any difference over the Yoko's but it's probably b/c the exhaust is loudest. Either get an exhaust or turn up the radio!

I agree with my partner "Pratt". I just switched out my Pzero's for PS2's and they are less noisy. I like the idea of louder exhaust to drone out the tire noise!

Haha, well if you guys think that is the cause i will definitely be swapping tires for PS2's, these Pzero's are just humming like snow studded tires

Thanks guys!

Pzeros are the issue. go Michelin Ps2's or you could just buy my rims already equipped

PS2 is the way to go. Did you perform a 4 wheel alignment when you got theses other tires. I would suggest doing so if you have not. You still need the PS2 though so do it all at once. If you already did it then it should be fine and jsut get the tires. They are much quieter and stick good for a street tire.

Going from an M3, I noticed the same thing, lots of road noise. Also have the PZero's, glad to hear that PS2's are quiter. Not complaining, just noticable. Just love this car too much.

Thanks a lot for the input guys.. The guy I bought the car from put the tires on and I'm actually not sure if it had an alignment, hmm I will def. look into that and I wonder why I didn't think about that before..

Well i'll see if I need an alignment, and if I do how much could it possible have an effect on the road noise or would the tires still be unbearable? Ps2's are prob the way to go, but that means me putting off other mods to get some new tires haha

And yea the M3 had a great ride even slammed on 19's and great sound deadening, that's why I was quite surprised that the porsche wouldn't have a similar quiet soundless so to speak cabin, oh well..

I'd suggest you drive another car similar to yours or put rims with different tires before you change. If you need to I have access to stock rims with Dunlops on them you could put on and take a spin. You'd hate to change and find out it was a waste.

some times swapping L and R tires can reduce the tire noise. often, tires will get noisy for a while and then get better.

Wow thankyou so much for the offer, but i wouldnt want to take you from your free time to do that for me haha.. Maybe i'll just tough it out, or just swap the tires. But then selling and so on, god this is going to be such a hassle!

iLLM3 - I thought I had bad road noise on my 7K mile 01 TT, then discovered a bad front wheel bearing - sounds just like tread whine too! - may want to check wheel bearings.
