I logged my car the other day. One 4th gear pull. The temps rose from 18 degre to 25degre.

Here a log of a 4th gear full throttle pull starting at 1988 to 7425rpm at an density altitude of 7600'. Starting IAT went from 27ēC to 49ēC at the end of the pull. Outside air temperature was 20ēC. Keep in mind that at 7600' the air is thinner thus providing less cooling air for the intercoolers. Note that IAT's dropped back down to 35ēC within 20 seconds after the pull.

Thanks! thats good news.
I'm gonna do a new round with pulls today after fixing my car, so i will keep logging after a but my foot of the throttle to see if i have the same results.

ghostofpain: rename your file to .csv and try again.

Thx for the hint Ronny.

Here we go. You can see that my car got a little boost leak ...the venturi tube is leaking. So no big deal but missing some HP...

Temp was around 14 degre. I run the 997 GT2 RS IC´s of course.
Powerwise i got stock k16`s with software. Rest see sig.

I guess its the boost (compressed air = hot) not the turbos who makes the IAT hot...

GT2RS intercoolers are ok for stock turbos. Once you start modding and going bigger they just heat soak in hot weather. Plus they have the plastic ends which fail and leak. I used them before and the right end tank was leaking under pressure.

Thats why mine are secured with steel clamps. No trouble at all.
I know alot of guys here in germany with big turbos and high HP output up to 700HP. They all use these ICs, without a problem. If yu want more HP you probably need bigger ones, but thats insane anyways.

Clamps have nothing to do with the plastic leaking. When you do a boost test then you will find out if there leaking are not. The ends break or crack. Also they have alot of back pressure vs. Other intercoolers. Yes they work and no at 700hp you need to go to something bigger and less back pressure.

It all depends on temps outside. One of the guys that ran at wannagofast was heat soaking bad in 80 degrees with 120+ iat. My iat were 90 degrees.

Never heard or seen any 997 GT2 RS IC breaking or leaking caused by cracked plastic.
But 120 degre celsius? With the 997 GT2 RS ICs? I cannot believe this. I dont think the DME will allow this to happen. Probably this safety function was deprogrammed....

We are taking 120F not C. Yes they leak all the time. There is multiple post on these intercoolers. I have tested them alot and there great when its 50 in temps once in the 70 to 90F they suck.

As far as i know you are not pull timing with 120 degre F.
Anyways. If the weather is hor, we all will suffer from it.

The log I posted is on a 3.8 with hybrid K16s. Thermal recovery on the 7.2s is very quick and even with continuous track duty IATs won't get much higher than 50-55c as heat is shed very quickly when off throttle. You can't judge the performance of an intercooler by a single pull but rather by continuous full throttle pulls over a much longer timeframe to allow full heat soak of the core. The 7.2s are about the best there is for the 600whp level if fast thermal recovery is your goal. End tank leaks are not an issue if you run 1.2-1.3 bar and make sure the tabs are fully crimped prior to install. I personally find them excellent for moderate boost applications if you respect their limitations.

If you know a good spot to do 4th gear pulls for data logging please pm that to me!
