Yesterday, I was driving with a friend of mine in the 996tt headed to a charity event. While on the expressway, my Valentine 1 started going off and pointed to the rear. My passenger looks back to see if we have a cop on our rear. He notices a small amount of smoke in the rear. I decided to pull over and as soon as we stopped the rear windshield was covered with fire and smoke. We jumped out of the car and ran away from the car. In less then a minute the fire had engulfed the entire interior of the car. I wanted to cry seeing my car go up in flames. However, after the adrenaline died down the magnitude of how luck we were finally hit me. I don't know what happened. The insurance company is sending in an investigator to see what happened.
I'm thankful to be alive and looking forward to search for a new car. I had a lot of memories with that car. The 996 turbo will always have a special place in my heart.
Anyways, I wanted to say thank you to this forum. I learned so much about cars and how turbo engines work. I also got to meet some cool and interesting people.
Sorry to hear about that brother. I hope you had agreed value insurance. I have it on all of my cars through state farm. This **** happens, they pay you the predetermined amount. The nice thing is you can try to get them to cover those mods and the recent uptick in values should help as well.
Wow, that's some scary stuff! Glad you are both ok. Good thing on your radar, I am sure that bought some time. As everyone has stated, car is definitely replaceable. Please keep us posted on the cause findings.
Dang man sorry for the loss! I was thinking it was just going to be a coolant pipe failure but to catch fire! Makes me want to go get a passenger mounted fire extinguisher.
