Cool Full Carbon Dual Intake

I installed this Full Carbon Dual Intake this evening I thought it was going to be easy but nothing is easy when you have a 3" Y Pipe.

Everything's Carbon the backing board the two scoops and half the Air box.

Anyway here are some pics haven't tested yet so dont know if there are any improvements, will let you know what I think tomorrow and will even log tomorrow night.

They are available here http://www.vft-opitz.de/

Sorry for dodgy pics a bit tired.

Have you replaced the piping after the MAF? That's where the primary restriction is unfortunately

Seal up the snorchels to the air box well. That is extremely important so you don't suck in any hot air from the engine bay. Right now you have a huge hole in the drivers side snorchel right by the left spoiler ram. That must be sealed up Tim otherwise you are going backwards.

BLKMGK is correct however. The OEM air box is not the restriction as even the single opening has over 2x the cross section area of the MAF tube. The greater restriction is in intake manifold past the MAF tube where it pinches in due to the location of the fuel filter. Finally, the greatest restriction are the factory turbo intake pipes. Those must be opened up. Essentially, increasing the air box openings without addressing the intake manifold and turbo intake tube restriction on the intake side is akin to placing a larger funnel on a small straw. No matter how big a funnel you place on the straw, it will only flow as much as the straw allows.

Hope you are healing well....

Yeah John i was thinking I might use expander foam who knows mate.

I purschased this while I was in hospital and had forgotten about the restriction due to the amount of painkillers I was on.

It would of been a better fit but for Daves Rennkit. I'll work out some way to seal the hole will probably make something out of fibreglass or plastic.

Ill see how it goes if I dont like it I can always revert back to OEM.

Feeling much better thanks Hound almost five months I laid in that damn bed, still not out of the woods but almost.

Cool

Finally got the carbon dual intake properly sealed up and back in.

According to my latest back to back logs the IATs have dropped a couple of degrees.

How would you open up the area around the MAF and Turbo intakes?

You can not alter the cross section of the MAF tube. That is a fixed value. You can however install a less restrictive manifold post MAF and less restrictive turbo intake tubes.

Yes you can Hound twin pipe set up from airbox to turbos.

Have a look at johnny dangerous set up posted long ago before his crash.

You need to be Mafless and have a twin outlet sdaptor made that allows each flexi turbo pipe to be connected directly to the airbox.

Getting this full carbon dual intake airbox fitted and fully sealed up has resulted in a need for a 10% increase in fuel by 7000rpm.

Just about to upload the recalibrated tune, will log and post the results.

Thanks again to Todd K at Protomotive for his service and advice.

Protomotive the first and easily the best 996T tuner bar none.

No point wasting your time with these other silly ******.

Next ill be fitting a modified dual outlet air box.

Just for you Hound here is a pic of a modified dual outlet OEM air box.

Thanks again to Johnny Dangerous for this great idea.

Hopefully will have it completed and in place in the next couple of weeks.
