Adjustable throttle pedal

I just removed the carpets and skimmed the foam insulation off the back of them. It was a nice 18lb weight savings. When I was reinstalling the carpets I noticed that the factory throttle pedal had a lot of flex to it in the flex joint at the base. I ended up taking it apart to make sure the flex joint was not broken which happens frequently with the stock pedal. It was not but the whole pedal, while needlessly complex, has a very flimsy plastic joint (pictured below) which is prone to failure if you hell and toe aggressively. . There is not really much that can be done. Just by chance I had a Rennline Rev3 adjustable throttle pedal on hand which I bought a couple of year ago but never got around to installing it. Now was the perfect chance. While the installation instructions are very thorough, it still takes about 3 hours to get everything installed and adjusted properly. The plastic OEM throttle pedal body is retained but modded slightly to accept the billet aluminum throttle pedal. I must say it's well worth the effort. You end up with a very beefy pedal that has zero flex to it. Compared to the OEM plastic pedal, it's night and day. It is also fully adjustable in all directions including pitch making the perfect position easily achievable. You can also add the optional Rennline heel and toe tabs if you prefer that. Definitely a great upgrade..

glad to see you did that to the carpets as i was thinking there was some decent savings to be had. how does the carpet fit back in the car once you shaved it all? what was your tool of choice to shave the carpet? i was thinking an electric carving knife might be a good choice

I just used a spatula Steve. Lot of it actually pulled of by hand so I used the spatula to go beyond that. It's a bit tedious. I ended up leaving some material right around the perimeter of the carpeting and a couple of squares in the center of the carpet on the rear pieces (ECU cover and the rear most carpet piece). This keeps the carpet from having gaps at the edges and from sagging in the middle. On the large main floor carpet, I just shaved the rear portion of it leaving the front stock as I wanted the flooring to be nice and flat where the mats are. Visually you can't tell anything was done. I also pulled out the heavy insulation above the wheel well. All in all it was a full large garbage bag full.

Man, the factory throttle pedal has given me all sorts ot headaches. One time I thought my gearbox blew and it was just that ragedy throttle pedal, ended a travel weekend trip very early.

The foam insulation is documented in the weight loss thread I think. I know Ive posted it somewhere. If not feel free to add it.

I used pinch welt around my aluminum track mats so they would not cut into the carpet.

Been looking at the same pedal set up too. Nice!

Great mod!

With lot of track seasons I went through many factory gas pedals. Only thing I dislike about the rennline pedal I have is it does hurt a bit my foot when heel toeing the whole day compared to the original "softer" plastic pedal. Nothing critical though and perhaps by adjusting the pedal bit lower I would not have that issue anymore.

You can have extension for that pedal for easier heel'n'toe. Have them, like a lot.

I've tried the extensions and don't care for them. I have both the heel and toe extension but didn't install it. My feet are big enough I guess.
