I just had my engine rebuilt with new turbos, etc, and now that it's all put back together the shop that's doing the work has been trying to source a code that's being thrown for a bank 1 misfire. Anyone else ever have this issue? They've been trying to source it for 2 weeks. Any insight would be appreciated. The car is an 03 996tt.

In b4 everyone asks if you changed the plugs and what plugs you're running and if they are gapped correctly. Oh and if you put new coils on.

If you are getting misfires on one bank, check the cam solenoid bracket. The one that sits between the coils. If the bracket was damaged while the engine was being put back together the solenoid won't sit flush and can affect cam timing causing misfires on that bank. Also check to make sure the connector(s) to that solenoid and the cam actuator (right under intake hose that connects to the airbox) are secure and clean.

Good luck!

What was done? New pistons? Just a long shot (a very long shot) but years ago a buddy ordered a crate engine from Chevy and it arrived and the engine was put into a car. After a year the engine was removed and torn down and he found one cylinder had a lower compression ratio piston installed. This was before OBD2 so there was no misfire error code to provide a clue something was, pardon the expression, amiss.

By "bank 1 misfire" are all cylinders misfiring in bank 1? Under what conditions? Cold start? Cold idle? Warm idle? Under load? High RPMs?

If all or even just 2 -- well, to be safe even 1 -- cylinder of a bank is misfiring as vogz suggested check the VarioCam solenoid bracket for cracks. Check the other side too, just to be thorough.

The shop who dropped engine in, should know about spark plugs and coils, I'm sure. I vote for solenoid bracket as well.

Cam bracket or CAM angle sensor itself.
