I was driving down Ventura Blvd in Encino when I saw a black 996 pulling out of a driveway. I saw the rear spoiler and assumed it was a standard 996 with an aero kit. As I drove past the driveway, the car accelerated across a few lanes and into the turn lane. As it moved past me in the turn lane, two lanes to the left of me, I saw the GT3 badge, side skirts and GT3 rear spoiler. It appeared to have black rims. I would have talked to the owner, but we were too far apart and he was turning while I was going straight. The car appeared to accelerate very quickly and had a great throaty sound -- very different sound than a standard 996.

I thought GT3s were not yet being released to customers here in the states. This GT3 was beautiful!

I didn't have a camera with me, but even if I had, there wouldn't have been sufficient time.

Craig, Chances are it is not a true GT3, they have not been released from the ports yet, the car you saw probably was setup with a aerokit and exhaust system and possibly more.

 

It could have been a GT3 badged 996 with an exhaust. I only got a fleeting glimpse. It definitely said "GT3" and it definitely was louder than a standard 996, but beyond that, I can't be certain of anything.

well was the kit the typical aero kit or did it have what looks to be the new GT3 kit?

 

The new GT3 kit is called the AEROKIT II.

 

If it "is" the case that the GT3's are not in America yet,
I must be seeing things too. I saw a RED one yesterday
in the west Chicago area near O'hare airport.

It had the GT3 wing and side skirts. I did not see the
badge though. I was driving the other way.
